I didn't see a thread that celebrates Mexican built bikes and I know there are some good ones. Here is my Windsor Professional, otherwise known in some circles as a "Mexi-cinelli". let's see what you got!

I have heard of a couple over the years, but never know where they were made. Colnago and Benotto come to mine. My old Benotto was cheap after I crashed my Gios in a race, and it was all I can afford at the time. college tuition always seem to scresscrew up my racing plans. I can and always have assumed that it was a Mexican frame. Damn fine frame if you ask me. I can't tell the difference between that and my other frames.

Wonder when Windsor Sold the name? Merckx DeRosa built, hour bike wore a Windsor logo on it
because they paid for the privilege, and the test was in the Mexico City Olympic velodrome.
It's now in a glass case , Eddy repainted it with his factory logo.

My father had a Windsor Pro in the '70s, but I ended up totaling it in the mid/late '80s. Loved it, and look forward to getting one in the stable some day....

No longer mine, but it was a lovely bike!
Then there's this one. I'm still unsure what to do with it. A fine Fauxcinelli. Windsor frame with a fork that's maybe from a Raleigh (Simplex fork ends). Oh, and the steerer tube is too short for the head tube.

If you look at the video and or stills from the event you will find Ernesto Colnago doing the final prep on the bike by wiping the tires, etc before handing it over to the UCI commissaires.
This was advised as the root cause of the Eddy/ Ernesto split.
A deal was struck with Windsor to promote that brand as being used in the record attempt.
Soon thereafter there was a poorly retouched Windsor Bike photo poster of Eddy coming toward the viewer and he is on a bike with a Windsor headtube transfer.
There are two hour bikes, your choice as to which one is the real one, the one in the glass case at the Merckx subway station or the one in the Colnago Museum.
There were two bikes on hand in Mexico.
I vote for the one with the Pino stem and magnesium hub shells and pedal bodies.
Merckx then went with DeRosa for his mounts mostly. Possibly Kessels too still.
Probably not a bad choice as DeRosa helped Eddy set up the Belgium Merckx factory.
You think Colnago would do that? Even for a price?
There is an interesting short period where DeRosa was building Merckx's actual road race bikes and Ernesto was building Eddy Race replica bikes... with the Eddy Merckx branding on them.
One last opportunity?

It can get tricky keeping track of this period, but it's one I enjoy the most in bike lore.

My 1988 Benotto Triathlon road bike that I picked up this Spring. It was left outdoors by the seller, who got it from a family member.

project is a Carabela track bike which was apparently another branding that
Acer-Mex used to sell their products.
It's highly uglified, with a brushed on black paint, but there appears to be plenty
of both chrome and some rust underneath. The frame itself is pretty heavy duty,
and I assume al the components that it came with are replacements.
Anyway, is there any knowledge or insight into when and why Carabela existed
on the catalogs alongside Windsor ?

I knew that part but what I mean is mexican race bikes builders, Chileans had several, colombians too, argentinians had 2 I believe but never heard of mexicans.

Raysport Super Corsa. Since photo, it has received an SR milled stem and a different saddle. Wheels are now Suntour Superbe laced to Araya Aero 1 tubulars.

I have stumbled across a few Windsors over the past 6 years, and every one of them has been a POC. Many, many Benottos, but all of them too small for me. I have a 27" rim, VELOX, that was, and I believe still is made here, but have yet to lace it up.

I also had a Carrera Sport, and while it was heavy, it had very aggressive frame angles and was quite stiff, giving it a good feel under pressure.
Here's my Profesional model I pulled from Goodwill's dumpster. Still had some nR components though the paint was literally falling off from extended outdoor storage.
I stripped the paint, revealing a chrome-plated frame that I built into this. The Campag bits went into my Raleigh Pro restoration, but the Windsor's fork looked to have been de-rusted by a PO using a bench grinder(!) so was set aside.

My grandson rides the same size bikes that I do! I put the Windsor under him and he flew! He loved the color and that chrome! He has graduated to the lighter bicycles now!
