Sorry to hear this.

You should put these bikes on the stolen bike registry: https://www.stolenbicycleregistry.com/ There are people who are dedicated to finding bikes using social media. You might also try contacting the SF Bay Area Stolen Bikes group to see if they have contacts where you are: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!fo...ycles-bay-area

Been of the grid a while. Thanks for all the kind words. I searched CL and Flea-bay for months and haven't come up with much. There's a MILLION pawn shops in S GA and N FL so it's just too much to try to run them down that way. I've kind of "moved on" by recently getting an '86 TREK 400D (USA Reynolds 531) in "rough" shape to rebuild for my son, and a pretty nicely kept MIYATA 914 for the wife. They now reside in the house, but not sure if the wife is gonna go for that for long Our house is tiny and adorning it with vintage bikes is not her idea interior decorating, BUT she agrees it's cheaper than losing $$$$$$$$$$ in bikes.

You can build that into something really cool and classy.

I need to find some of the Dupont Imron Dark Metallic blue pant. The one I have has some pretty rough scrapes and a few tiny rust bubbles, esp on top bar. Mine might not end up QUITE as pretty as yours, but with my son at the helm, I'm less concerned about Beauty as functionality and toughness !!!

A Prior owner had swapped the handle bars for Mtn Bike bars and shifters. I'm going back to drops and Friction shifters. The crank was FUBAR too so I've got an old Ultegra I'm putting on. It'll probably end up with a Brooks seat I have laying around and "leatherette" tape. If I could touch up the paint it could be pretty sweet!

Nope- I took the bike to a hobby store, the guy was kind of gruff with me at first- "no bikes allowed in here" and then he got really helpful with matching the paint.

I think our son may have "borrowed" the paint- I was looking for it a few months ago- and it's no longer on the shelf where it was.

It was definitely a Testors metallic.

I'm headed to the "Big City" (Albany, GA) this afternoon. I'll see if the hobby shop has something close. Maybe they'll let be carry the frame in to be extra sure.

do you know the tracker WIMB? I read something about it and it is quite interesting. So, I try to find someone, who know more about it or have it in bike. It should protect bikes from stealing or something like this…

Man, this sucks and I just saw it thanks to the bump.

Craigslist supports email alerts. Set one up for CL instances within 200 miles of you using uncommon keywords like super sport for example. Worst that can happen, you'll get notified when/if they go up for sale.

Ughhh. Know the feeling too well.

Comment about the cops goes both ways. When some of my prized bikes were stolen, the county cop taking the report was a big round condescending fatty. Didn't believe someone would spend such amount on a bike.... but I further had to correct him as in plural 'bike's.

I also cycle with a few cops. Serious riders and they take bike theft to heart. But like most, politics, limited time allocation and bigger fish to fry takes priority.

Things like this really jack me up inside but you have to move on. Life is such a short window. Hope something turns for the better and your family is riding soon again.

edit: Noticed thread is from 2014 and now just bumped?

I had my Cannondale Synapse stolen off the bike rack of my car. The funny thing was I was getting parts for it at a bike shop. I alerted the police bout it asap and half an hour later they found it in someone's yard at the scene of a hit and run. So if this can happen it's possible you may get your bikes back.

Check Searchtempest.com You can specify a Craigslist search with in a certain radius of your location or any ZIP code - say 200 miles. It will check ALL of the Craigslists in that area!

I bought a banana yellow SS new in 1971 in Redondo Beach. My first ride to Laguna Beach was a blast until I met a school friend who begged me to let him ride my bike back to his home and I could use his car. Yep, he crashed it. Not too much damage except for a buckled wheel.

I hope you get yours back soon.

You most likely will never see them again. The homeowners insurance mentioned is a good way to go, hope you have it. Parlay that into something better and you have won.

A two year old post! At least we should be able to find out how right we were. Did you get the bikes back or what?

Sorry to hear that. Try to find pix of the other bikes or pics of bikes that look just like them and post up. Bunch of Atlanta guys on here like myself. Maybe we'll see them pop up. Also let bike shops know. Lots of times those guys go in there asking question to see what they're worth or to try to sell them.
