How an awesome bike becomes invisible on eBay... '74 Masi Gran Criterium
My N has a +1 on the way.
The auction ended this morning after a long week of anxious waiting and hoping no one else noticed.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/201019483425...84.m1439.l2649
At some point I did a completed listings search on the seller to see that the bike had actually already been listed 3 times with no bids, i won it on the 4th time around.
So how can such a highly sought after bike with an extremely reasonable pricetag go virtually unnoticed for a solid month?
Well obviously the name is spelled wrong, alone that would not be enough to keep it entirely off the radar... but seing that the listing was located in "Collectibles > bicycles > bicycle accesories" instead of "Vintage Bicycles" it becomes easier to see how it happened.
Stack that with the lack of keywords such as "Campagnolo" or "Cinelli" and there is no real reason anybody should be able to find it.
I was just lucky enough to be browsing that category for some Stingray stuff and noticed the beautiful blue "MAZI RACING BIKE"

Frame's quite small..... I suspect you'd have big competition bidding for it, if it was at least 52cm size....
Still your lucky day though, if that is your size, as it's definitely a super classic! Congratulations on the great acquisition!

Wow. All I can say is wow.
One of the best deals on the Forum this year. You got it for a fraction of what a proper auction should have fetched...
Beautiful!

Lucky you! The frame size might have also helped dissuade a few people who did notice it. Glad you snagged a premium ride for a good price in your size!

It never ceases to amaze me how often bicycle names are misspelled in on-line adverts, despite being properly spelled on the bike itself.

She says it was sent to California to be reprinted in the ad, that makes me wonder if perhaps its a CycleArt job. Of course there are plenty of talented painters in Cali, but for someone not immersed in the hobby, it seems like a google search for "bicycle restoration" or something like that may turn up those fellas before others. All speculation of course.

Not to rain on this love fest, but have you actually received this item?
I noticed in their sales history a telling negative feedback response.
They refunded a buyer's money after the winning bid was too low.
I do hope you receive this though. Looks like a nice Masi, especially at that pricepoint.

But being that she's been trying to sell it for over a month now, I'd be betting she's ready to see it go.

That being said, it's only about 3.5 hours away, so might just make a trip to pick it up and save the money and the risk.

That would be a no-brainer for me for something this special, if I didn't have to brave icy roads or a blizzard!

I've checked out the Collectables section from time to time, but the bike stuff tends to be over-priced and I don't even bother anymore.
Nice score on the Mazi, it looks very clean.

Good on ya, mate!
I snagged a Lejeune in a similar manner. They misspelled Lejeune. For items I am actively seeking and having a hard time finding, I always search all categories, including description and common misspellings. I did see your Mazi. It was too small for my interest.

I asked about the $150 shipping price and she informed me shed be having a bike shop pack and send it. So thats comforting and makes the shipping price reasonable.
That being said, it's only about 3.5 hours away, so might just make a trip to pick it up and save the money and the risk.

Good Score! Now go and get it. Before some guy in the bike shop buys it out from under you.

Get in the car and drive. And, yes, a great deal.
I'd guess that an original paint example in that condition could fetch at least 2k? Maybe even 2500? A repaint definitely reduces value, but I'd still guess that $1500 is a fair price?

Great price, there was 60cm locally for 2500. It sold very fast.
