robtown,
I checked out that frame. It is a 56, but sorry to say the stem and seat post are stuck pretty bad. Let me know if you might still want it. I may be able to take those saddles off your hands though.

Hoping to do the show again this year.....

.... but still haven't decided for sure. I use a cane normally so I was able to walk a row, rest on a bench, then continue but this year will be in a wheel chair due to recent surgery (doc says I'll be able to ride again this summer). The ag center only has 3 handicapped spaces (our local fair grounds of similiar size has 15) and last year I arrived at 7:45 and I got the last one. Can I be that lucky this year? I asked them (ag center) to consider adding 2 or 3 more (they have the space) but all I got was a "...we meet the federal guidelines in effect when building was built." Nice attitude!

My wife is special enough to go with me (a bike show to her is like a gift shop to me) and carry my purchases to the van when it's parked close to the entrance, but the walk to the main parking area is more than I would ask.

On a less crybabyish note, the show is fantastic. If you've never been, make it a point to go. All that bike stuff in one place at great prices.

If you do go, and would like some help with any part of it (parking a car, carrying stuff around, etc), let me know. I would be glad to help if I can.

So, fess up. What did you buy? I got a nice old wheel set with bullseye hubs, some Topline cranks, some Paul hubs. And a handful of other things. Nothing really awesome, but worth the trip.

Got a lot of little things for some upcoming projects and picked up the Motobecane tandem that was in the used bike corral. It's a little big for me but has a lot of cool goodies on it. My wife seems excited to try it out. Should be a lot more fun than my single speed tandem.

I didn't have a hugley successful trip, either selling or buying-- it was likely the worst swap I have ever been to in that regard-- but I had a good time, not in the least because I got to hang out with my brother for a couple of hours afterwords. Some of the problem with swaps is I have become steadily more picky; another is that the really good deals on consumables (tires, tubes, bar tape) seem to have evaporated. It would have taken something fairly special for me to get up off my duff and spend some dollars, and nothing appeared in my price range (up to about a grand). Past swaps have always coughed up a frame or two, or an interesting project bike-- there was not much in that way this time. I left with a 451 sized wheelset, a shimano rear cassette hub, and six tires.

On the way out I signed up for a table at next year's.

I picked up a few bar end shifter bits, including a 7s Shimano, a pair of Campy 8-sp downtube shifters, an early 3-arm SR crankset, a pair of Lyotard Berthet pedals, and splurged on a C-Record Sherriff's star pista rear hub which I will polish up and will sit on the mantlepiece to be gazed upon until my next annual eBay sale. Glad somebody here got the Moto tandem - that was sweet.

Sold two bikes, my Fuji Finest and a KHS mountain bike I've had sitting in stock for the past year.

On the buying side, a B-72 for my Raleigh Tourist . . . . . . . and I found another Rossin!!!!! This one's the blocky multi-colored paint scheme as shown in the insert of this page of the catalog. Which means, once done, I'll have both bikes on the page. This one will get built full Campagnolo (yep, I'm finally going to use that crap).

So was it your Fuji Finest that Harvey S from the CR list bought? Photos make the one he bought look like a lovely time capsule.

I was on a 4-hour conference call, and never had a chance of making it before closing. Drats!~ Maybe next year!

I had a great day as a vendor. I sold 5 of the 6 bikes I had taken down and a whole bunch of small parts. I know I gave some people great deals on a lot of parts, but I needed to purge a bunch of stuff. robtown and ultraman6970 seemed to be having a great time because everytime they came back by my table they had something new in their hands. Like two kids in a candy store. So fun to watch. A great day and I will probably get a couple more tables next year.

What he bought is proof that storage for 30 years in a damp basement isn't terminal on a bike if you're willing to take the time and effort. When I got it, the bike was a total wreck, saved primarily by the quality of the chrome that Fuji put under the paint. Assuming he doesn't redo it yet again (it's got six years and better than 5000 miles on it since I set it to rights), you'll notice there's no chrome left whatsoever on the quick release ends, and although the brake calipers polished up some of the corrosion polished over rather than out. Just the same, it was a wonderful ride, and I finally got to own one forty years after selling them.

All the parts, other than the pedals, cables and casings, and bar tape is original - and the only change the former owner had done to it was to swap the sewup rims to clincher.

Hi. I'm a "middle aged" sometime rider and bike enthusiast. I used to ride a fair amount and have had a few bikes along the way and then stated to pick up a few cheap ones at yad sales when I finally couldn't turn them down. I'm not too knowledgeable or high end in my tastes or affordabilities.

I though the show was interesting and did some good buys and actually wish I had it to do over. There is so much to look at though between bikes and accessories that it's hard to see. It seems it could be organized and presented a little better for people to see. And some things weren't priced. It makes it a Lot easier if things are priced.

Saw some good deals on tires ($10 a pair) and seats ($5 and $10 and up). It looked to me that the bikes were more in the higher expensive end and I'm surprised there weren't more less expensive models. Very few old 3 speeds, virtually no old ballon tires (maybe two), one really cute Schwinn Sting Ray and a decent price $175.

I did see the Fuji Finest and it was a beauty (the one with the chrome bands?). I didn't notice it of course till the guy bought it. I'd be curious what she went for.

I wonder who the vendors were, I know some were bike shops obviously, but were some just private bike people, collectors or hobbyist type people?

I was interested in an Atala Grand Prix that was reasonable but I didn't go for it. The price was decent, I don't know who the seller was.

I looked at that Atala, too, since my buddy's shop was Fuji/Atala. Needed a bit more work than I wanted to do with two projects hanging fire right now. But it did bring back memories.

What did you think it needed? It looked like pretty good original condition to me. Do you think the lugs would have polished out and the other chrome or whatever it was. I was afraid it was shot, but I have a feeling it might have polished out. I wonder if the lugs ere nickel plated. Pretty nice leather seat, don't know the make. The paint was in pretty good condition.

Would anyone like to comment on any deals they got or saw?

Actually, I figured the work would have been rather routine, a good bit of oxalic acid soaking, rubbing out, polishing, etc. I passed on it because it's a low end bike (yeah, I finally passed on a gaspipe special, which is odd for me) as my spring and bank account are already going to be tied up on killer restorations of a '77 PX-10 I'm waiting to get back from the frame shop, and that Rossin I picked up about an hour earlier (I'm doing it Super Record, and the only parts I've got are what came with the frameset). The bike was well worth saving, and if I wasn't already planned out I'd have been sorely tempted to dive on it.
