I can't have music on when I'm doing stuff that requires concentration. I always pay too much attention to the music.

Right now, for winter, my workstand is right where this picture is taken from.

At home, I have some JVC receiver and a roku player, I play pandora or some other streaming radio. At the co-op, similar thing, but with a bluetooth adapter so you can play off your phone too.

I have four more vintage systems in the house in addition to the modern home theater system.

It can be addictive, just like vintage bikes.

Music doesn't hurt my concentration. I used to write term papers with the amp turned up to 11.

I've been swapping between one system and another. I recently picked up an early 1970s Yamaha receiver, its off to be rebuild. Then I have a pair of 1960s Japanese speakers to refinish, and a big selection of turntables. While the Yammy is out for repair, I am using a 1970s Technics system, with matching speakers and I forget whose turntable. All of it is sitting on top of a vintage roll away tool chest (bottom unit).

I took my Marantz 2230 out of the shop. Nothing downstairs in the detached garage, but upstairs in the studio, I have my vinyl collection playing through vintage klipsch, DCM, or B&W speakers....

With Stereo-matic Futuristic Sound, who wouldn't? Don't get that on an iThingy. I bet Phil Spector sounds great on that.

I should get the filter caps redone on my Telefunken tabletop stereo radio/SW with tower speakers and get it in my shop--- I prefer to have the radio on when I'm tinkering, anyway.

I'm a big Marantz fan, but I'm particularly proud of the Sansui 5000 above. It has a very early build date of 01/68, it's fully restored and the wood case is perfect. They were recalled because they could overheat and self destruct, blowing the speakers at the same time. This one has had the faulty boards replaced, so it's safe.

There is also a baby Marantz 2215B a TEAC 4070G reel to reel and Grace WIFI tuner in a bedroom.

Your vinyl collection is awesome! We have similar tastes. I've been a huge Mothers and Rolling Stones fan since high school and I just signed up for Social Security yesterday.

I prefer my Grateful dead live, but that's not gonna happen.

You can't go back and you can't stand still....

"The Wheel" just came on the radio as I read your post! I was born in '77, but caught JGB and Dead shows at the old Spectrum in '94. Phish is a good time. The crowd has mostly grown up a bit -- you'd enjoy it.

One of those GD records is a bootleg live show. I forget what the date and venue was.

Here's something funkier:

Or....

Those look more like my wife's collection.

What do you think of "Between the Buttons"? That and "Aftermath" are the only Stones albums that I've always found unlistenable.

Spell check is wrong. Unlistenable is correct.

Music for the Shop

I got a portable record player for Christmas. Super cheapo with so-so sound. Great fun spinning records again though.

Just picked up a classic Ventures "Twist" album at the Salvation Army thrift store. Groovy stuff man.

As expected in Les Paul territory. Do I see 2 Sansui receivers there?

My wife won't let me set up my stereo in our house, and it sure won't be in the garage. I'm not a big fan of digital music, but convenience "is what it is."

So, the workshop has a higher-end e-machine laptop keyboard (screen broke, so I took it off), plugged into an older Dell flat-screen.
I run Pandora through Sony SAVA-7 speakers, which were far ahead of their time, DSP with 4 built-in amps. I can not go to 2 on the volume.
If I get tired of Pandora, I use either my Creative Zen M (30GB) or my Microsoft Zune (30GB) and run them through the SAVA-7's.
I can also surf the net for wrenching advice and stream Little Steven's radio show or NPR.

Not allowed in the house:
Kenwood M1 amps (2), C2 control amp, T2 tuner.
Pioneer CT-999 cassette deck (dbx), Rotel turntable, Pfansteil cartridge (IIRC).
Onkyo reel-to-real (dbx), dbx 224, SAE Eq.
Klipsch Forte II's

And probably a trunkload of items that will never be used if I don't put them on eBay. I've been the receiver route, even the 4-channel, and the integrated amp route, run humongous Polk RT-12C monitors, dbx Soundfield One's, Advent satellites/sub, a cheap Sony surround system, and even a Bose 1-2-3 system. Heck, my living room, master bedroom, and guest room have tube-type TV's. Only the den gets a flat screen, on a TV stand that has 2 powered speakers in it. I'm not fancy.

Headphones, another story. When music is right in my ear, I try not to mess around.
One set of wireless (IR) Koss with the cushions rotted away.
One set of wireless AR (2.8GHz) with the foam covers on their last leg.
One set of wireless Sony with the charging cradle.
One set of wired Sennheisers.
I can't stand the in-ear headphones, but do have a set for jogging which I've never used.

Oh and, "shop" is a bit relative. Working on my bikes? Definitely some tunes.
But if any machine with a rotating blade is on in my shop, the music is off.

At work I have my vintage Sony MDR-V6 headphones and an MP-3 player. I'm not fond of digital music, but it will do when I can't get analog.

I didn't know that Onkyo ever made a reel to reel. It's a brand that flies under the radar, so you can get their stuff cheap. I have an A-5 amp and a truly awesome Onkyo cassette deck. I never really got into cassette tape and I had no idea that it could sound so good.

Three flat screens in the house now. Only the big one in the family room has the HD box. The wife pays the bills and I'm waiting for the green light to order at least one more. Maybe when the tax refund hits.

I have been a bike flipper for 10 years but a audio flipper for over 50 years. I run big Carver amps and JBL monitors in my shop which is not attached to the house. How many guys have Magnapans in there shop. I run the good stuf in the house.
EddyR
Note after I posted this I saw the picture above mine with the Magnapans. I have the early very large ones at over 6ft tall. I rebuilt the tweeters.
