Newest project - 1973 Holdsworth Record

Not a high-falutin model, just 531 plain gauge with an interesting mix of components from the factory. Unfortunately, not all of it still with my acquisition.

And I overpaid a little, based on what I've found so far, but I wanted it for a keeper, not a flip, so I'm OK with that. But on to some pics. I've already stripped it down, so this a quick & dirty "reassembly" for pictures.

View of the whole, less the wheels.

Record FD with cable stop, even in '73. My first steel cottered crank. Labeled "NG" on the back of the arms. Lyotard 462 pedals.

Top tube decal. This one is in the worst shape

    Headbadge. Weinmann 610 f&r brakes.

Downtube decal. This one's in better shape.

Bronze Record RD, years after the NR was available. One of the interesting components. This one, although OE, is from my parts bin. The PO had a DA 7402 installed.

Seattube decal. This one is not too bad, either.

Record Model decal on the TT

And it came with the OE set of Nuovo Tipo hubs, straight skewers, laced to the proper Fiamme yellow label 27" rim in the rear, and a replacement Araya in the front that actually looks pretty good. But I'll be looking for the real thing.

And guess what? The fork's bent. But not anymore. Thanks to a BF search, I ran across inspiration from @auchencrow. Here's my version (car jack not shown)

And a few pics of the worst of the paint. I haven't decided the extent of my redecal/repaint/polish and let live.

And the serial number, in case anyone is trying to add to a database.

Things I'll be looking for to be obsessive about originality :
    1. Fiamme yellow label rim 27" clincher
    2. One Lyotard pedal dustcap
    3. Proper Brooks saddle. I've seen both a B5 and a B15 on this model.
    4. Correct brake pads, and possibly caliper replacements so I have the decals I'm missing.
    5. A set of shortie Weinmann fenders.
    6. Blumels frame pump of the proper age.

Nice. I had a Mistral briefly, really sweet riding bike but it was a shade too small. I predict you will like it a lot.

I could offer you some shortie fenders, but they're not Weinmann (at least I don't think they are) and you said obsessive.

A very cool project ExPres! I'm glad you found the jack method helpful for reversing the bend in the fork.

I would address only the worst of the worst when it comes to the paint touch up - (the rest just adds character on a bike like this).
For your shopping list - What about the frame pump? Can't have braze-on's w/o the correct frame pump!

Thanks. The fenders need to look like this:

Yes, I forgot about the proper Blumels frame pump. It can aslo be seen in the pic of the fender above. And edited my list

That thing is beautiful. Nothing wrong w/ straight gauge 531 -- got one of those in Capo #1 , and it's noticeably less whippy than [the late] Capo #0 and Capo #2 , which have double butted main triangles.

    Nice one!

I've just repainted a Mistral (a bit later than yours as it is 43800 or so). There is a thread on here with photos of the painted frame.
My decals were about the same condition as yours. I got some from H.Lloyd and some off ebay.

I have a Bluemels pump, but use it on my Scot (just for show, because they are useless at getting any decent pressure!)

It will be nice to see progress reports.

You can buy the decals as a set from Velocals.
