Hawthorne! Info Needed!

I got this bike from a woman in Toronto, 50 bucks! I have since cleaned it and had it painted.
But I don't know a whole lot about it. I remember once reading that with Hawthorne Bicycles that you can confirm the year by flipping the last two numbers of the serial number. No clue if that is true or not.

Could anyone pass along any information about this bike!? I've searched the internet but have never found a bike quite the same as this one.

Thank you!

Is that "Hawthorne" as in Montgomery Ward sporting goods?

Ok! Actually, I looked. Haha.
The decal on the front DOES say Montgomery Ward with an 'H'.
See photo!

You may be able to find some old MW catalogs online. From the style, I would guess 1940s - 50s.

Can we see a picture of the chainring? That's usually the easiest way to tell. It was likely made by Huffy or Murray or someone like that. See if you can find a serial number and match it up to one of the charts under the reference section of this website;

You might also try over at www.ratrodbikes.com or www.thecabe.com.
