About 4 coats total and with a gold metallic black acryllic lacquer. I have some orange peel to sand out but all in all with a little bit of patience....

How is your project? Warm enough to paint?

It IS warm enough to paint and no cold fronts predicted, but also warm enough for a ton of yard work, spring has really sprung in my area. I'm also rebuilding the front suspension on my daily driver, the toy car is killing me on gasoline so I need to finish soon. It seems there is always something pushing the SR onto the back burner. I did finally complete collecting all of the bits and bobs for the build and the fork has been sanded and primed.

Priorities......they always get in the way of important things like our bikes.

A sneak peak at the final coat of paint, here is a closeup of the toptube. The iphone isnt showing the deep, elegant black but rather a blue but you can see the gorgeous gold metal flake as far as the eye can see.

What was that Carly Simon (what a sweetheart) song about "anticipation"? Soon enough it comes together.

I gave up waiting for that mystical 65F day up here so I shot it section at a time standing at the mudroom door with the screendoor cracked to add fresh air. Finally, I can start to bolt stuff on.

Right on oldsCOOL, your C'dale Crit frame is amazing! Your time and effort has paid off many times over, as a previous member stated about this blacked out look... menacing and elegant... I'd go all the way to evil and I love it! I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed bike!

Great job!!!

Thanx, Neo! Hopefully this will be on the fogline before May. I'll put up some pics along the way.

OldsCOOL, One thing I'm going to try on mine is to outline the lug on the fork. I plan to use some Testors model paint to match the brake cable housing.

In case you're interested, after powder coating I ordered the vinyl decals off Ebay from this seller...

pacmandu | eBay

So far I've only applied to both sides of top tube:

OldSCOOL,
Looks sweet with the paint on the frame, that flake is really snapping out. My 91 SR300 had a black w/metal flake colourway that I really liked.

That will add a nice touch!

Just a thought on paint types, I enjoyed using the acryllic lacquer. You get best of both worlds. The lacquer gives a nice, easy and fast drying effect for redoing mistakes and the acryllic lays down like water with no need to rub out to get the deep shine. Being the first frame paint in 30yrs I forgot how tricky they are to paint.

Those in the above pic, Vuelta Corsa Lites weight 1500gr the set and for the price at Nashbar they are good stuff.

(I like the scripture in your sig )

Parts are arriving today!! Bartape (not David Lee Roth pattern), chain and ISIS tool for the bottom bracket and cassette. Thursday (I'm totally AMPED) the 12-28 cassette will be arriving from Niagara. I finished cabling and tuning the brakes yesterday so I'm all done until those parts get here today. The Black Lightning decals will come later when the lacquer settles in and paint is given a final rub. Cable guides will be here in about 2 weeks.

Thursday it will be ready to ride!!
