2014 Seattle Bike Expo
I tossed the fixed gear bike in the car and drove into Seattle to go see the Seattle Bike Expo. I parked at Gasworks and rode from there to the waterfront pier where the Expo was held.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...psdd9e366a.jpg The show is quite large but I was there largely for a few reasons: I had to settle up a bill for some bike clothes my Wife had ordered - Done! I registered for the wonderful Chelan Century where if you do this during the Expo, they give you a free bottle of Wine and a new pair of bike socks. - Done! And… The vintage bike show! I had two bikes on the Exhibit and mine pale in comparison to some of the beauties that are shown here. I had a great time, meeting up with forumites "boegster" and alex moll as well as Lane from last years' Cino Heroica and probably a dozen other friends. I tried to take some photos but most of them really suck. I haven't really mastered how to shoot indoors with a point n shoot camera. Dang. It's probably a good thing I had to work this weekend and couldn't come over for this. Don't want to be getting any ideas... :(
One thing that works for me with my point-n-shoot camera when shooting indoors in bad light, is focus on something dark in the range you want in focus; for example, the head tube on your Pitard side view shot. On a lot of point-n-shoot cameras, this means pointing the camera directly at the head tube, pushing and holding the shutter button halfway to focus on that spot (popping up a little square in the middle of the viewscreen), then pan to whatever you want in the frame (the whole bike) and squeezing the trigger the rest of the way to shoot. Don't know if yours can do this, but if so, you'll be focused on the bike that way, rather than the background behind the bike. |

I had a fun time at the show today with the family. Funny world...I was admiring Northbend's photos here the other night and then the next day I meet him in the flesh along with his fantastic Singer and Gordon. Hopefully we can go for a ride one of these days...his bikes look even better in person...and it looks like they'd fit me;). The vintage section of the show is fantastic. Too many to chose from but if forced that Pittard is near the top along with a couple awesome Cinelli's, a beautiful tan Bianchi, and Alex's pristine Eddy Merckx. Not much in the main show interested me except for the wooden Renovos and a custom build by Winter Bicycles...the "dance" bike demonstration was pretty awesome as well. Pretty amazing skills. Posted a bunch of random shots below.

I will have to make a point of coming down next year. The event escaped my notice until it was a little late (not that I didn't consider just dropping everything and tossing one of my bikes on the train leaving Pacific Central Station). |
That is cool. I went in 1993 when I was stationed at McChord AFB. I don't have any pics though. the only thing I remember is all the manufactures that were there. I don't remember any C&V though.

Nice bikes. Waiting to see more. I like the wrench mount on your fixie, @northbend. I'll have to try that out on mine. I generally forget to take a wrench, which sort of makes the whole patch kit/spare tube thing pretty worthless. |
Thanks smontanaro, I resorted to my old bolted down wrench when i couldn't find my peanut butter wrench. It's gotta be buried in the garage somewhere..

So jealous! I am usually in Seattle for business once or twice a year but never during bike show :-(
We went to Toronto bike show yesterday - what a joke, it gets worse and worse every year. Couple of manufacturers, so called marketplace with inflated prices and that's about it. Saw nice touring Mariposa rig in one of the booths (someone's personal ride) and that was the highlight of the show. |
Sweet pics. :) I "might" get some time later to drop in down there, but it's a pretty good ride, by bike or bus, so I might not make it. :( Have fun, whoever goes. :)

Sorry about the drool I left on the top tube. A bit biased, I couldn't help but thing a dozen vintage mountain bikes would have looked nice somewhere in the display. :rolleyes: |
I went back today to pick up my bikes. Aemmer, there were no traces of spittle on the Singer so no worries.

The Pitard was sitting on flat tires? Garage queen or minor vandalism?
Maybe the owner did that after leaving the show on Saturday so it couldn't be so easily ridden out the door by some adventurous opportunist. The hubs on that thing are just bonkers. I am somewhat smitten, I must admit. |

I was unfortunately unable to attend the actual show. I did get to see a fair number of the bikes when I dropped mine off on Friday (I think you might be able to see it's rear wheel between the wheels of the Jack Taylor trike). Particularly interesting was the Applehans (sp?) copper plated track bike and Jeff Groman's other track bikes. The six day race era is something I know almost nothing about but I love the bikes and want to know more.
