Is This a Raleigh Super Tourer?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi there everyone...since I am building my Raleigh collection...several people suggested that I should seek a Super Tourer...and it got me to thinking about a bike I had previously owned...I tried to determine the model and was unsuccessful...it was before I started posting here. So...here is a picture of it...and several online "experts" had trouble placing it.

Some details...

When I got it, it was built with a first generation Dura Ace group, including a Crane RD. Not sure that this was original, as the frame was also custom painted by CyclArt, so I am guessing that the Dura Ace group was an after custom painting addition. The only decals were "Raleigh" and "Carlton"...the frame did have fender and rack bosses on the rear. It had double braze ons for water bottle holders on the down tube. Those are the only things I can remember. I have sold the frame, but might have the opportunity to repurchase it...if it is Super Tourer frame...and...I love the colors, so am hoping we find it to be one...and then hoping maybe I can repurchase it.

Heres the picture I have...if more are needed (and, yes, I know that more is better)...let me know...but would love to hear some preliminary opinions.

The Super Tourer that I am familiar with was cataloged from 74-76 and would not have come with the Japanese components you mentioned. Also, the braze-on's bottle bosses etc would not be correct for those years so possibly they were added prior to the Cycl-Art repaint. FWIW, the (replacement) DT & CS decals are of the type that was used during the aforementioned years.
I can't tell from the pic if it has a sloping fork crown, but if it does, I can't rule out the possibility that it was a Super Tourer.

Whatever it is, it looks like a really nice bike, so if you have the opportunity to repurchase it at a reasonable price, it would be a lovely addition to your stable.

Hard to say, but I think not. I think Super Tourers had hanging pump pegs under the top tube. And most came stock with upright GB all-rounder bars.

daf1009-

The Super Tourers I have seen and the one I owned briefly, were black head tube and seat tube stripes with a green overall finish. They were exclusively French equipped with Huret dropouts front and rear, a full Huret Jubilee derailleur group with black topped downtube levers, Maillard HF (700s?) hubs, Stronglight 93 cranks with an alloy chain guard in the outboard location and two inner rings along with an upright bar on a GB stem. The two I speak of did not have brazed on pump pegs but I have seen that in photos. Could be a difference in our Canadian spec bikes. It was a lovely bike and would be a great addition to a Raleigh collection. It also had very nice frame workmanship and an lower headset bearing race in lieu of an upper!

First things, first: get the serial number from the top rear of the seat tube and validate it against the Raleigh Serial Number page:

Then, if it's a Raleigh, you can go to the Raleigh Catalog Database and compare it to the specifications and photos for the production year. Easy-peasy.

Super Tourers had sloping fork crowns, not the box crown as shown in that maroon one. Here's a 1974 ST I used to own:

Does it or doesn't it?

Late to the party...nice bike but not an ST. At a minimum...the brakes are wrong, particularly the rear cable bosses and the headset brand too as pictured.

Pump pegs were 1974 only, FWIW.
