I saw a unicycle and what looks alike a number of Schwinss and other single speed 'cruiser" bikes, that look like they have potential without too much work. Setting up to sell cheap college bikes to Gonzaga students might work also

I am NOT sayng this is a no brainer, or wont involve work, but I am sure that im gonna make a lot of people happy and make some money to boot. I plan on donating about 30-50 bikes at least
NOT A SINGLE BIKE OR PART will hit landfill - I give my word on that

I can't understand why some people are being negative and discouraging the OP. The guy scored 800 bikes + parts! That's pretty freakin cool in my opinion, especially since he has a medium in which to sell them. I'm sure he has enough sense to determine whether there are some good ones in there or not.

Generally speaking, this forum seems to be drifting more in that direction lately. Maybe it's cabin fever, and will go away once they start riding again. Maybe not.

A little presumptive analysis....
$5.00/bike is $4,000.00 to buy the lot of 800.
2 hours/bike at $10.00/ hour to prep and pack (that is presumptuous.....) is $16,000.00 for labor.
$20.00/bike in materials is $16,000.00 (or optimistic...)
So with a $36,000.00 investment ($45.00/bike) how much does the average sale need to be to cover the overhead of storage (for how long) and turn a reasonable profit over time?
I'm thinking there need to be several gems to makes this work.

I talked to Dave tonight. Very nice guy. This is going to be very interesting. I honestly don't have the room to store a lot of bikes of my own so I'm not in this to score a bunch of cheap high end bikes. I just am very interested in seeing everything and pointing him to the right direction. I'm not a flipper or reseller or ebayer so I'm not in it for pure financial gain. If he were to pay me an hourly wage for helping him, I wouldn't say no though. I'm not saying I wouldn't turn down a good bike or two but I'm not in it to make a big profit. I know how to spot a good bike so I know that I can at least offer my expertise that way. I know most of the differences between a PX10 and a garden variety UO-8 for example. I also work with my co-op and have a good strong relationship with the other non-profit bike shop in town so I know the kind of stuff that we will take and more importantly, the stuff we won't take.

I also think the OPs stated intent is not going to work, regardless of how little he paid. These aren't eBay bikes - leaving him 60 days to sell 800 bikes and parts through CL and a non-bike store store front. It would flood a local market and it's time and labor intensive. I'd be selling to other flippers, taking the tax refund donating, and recycling a hefty %, because I'm not seeing a whole lot of money after labor costs on preparation. It takes time to sell this stuff, it's not a huge market and 60 days? Good luck. That's not negative, that's advice.
Also - who is doing the labor? It doesn't sound like bike guys. I sense high returns and liability. I can say that I wouldn't be offering free time to do this - I'd charge. This is a for profit enterprise - there's no need, or reason, to offer free labor/knowledge. I'm in no way criticizing the OP here, I like commercial enterprise too, but this isn't a collection, or going to habitat for humanity. If the OP is seeking profit on 800 bikes and parts, I see no reason not to charge for specialized knowledge.
