Just have to share
I have been working on building up an old small Peugeot for my son, he has been wanting a road bike for a while. It has been an exercise in futility if not patience. Pretty much every hurdle cleared leads to another.
Before I got my Olmo someone gave me a 1985 Nishiki NFS but it was to small for me. I passed it to my daughter but then she decided she didn't want it. Then it went to my wife but she didn't like it either. My son wanted it but he needed to grow about four inches of leg, that was last summer. The bike has been sitting in the garage unused and finally I decided I was going to clean it up and sell it.
My son's interest in cycling has been waning but Sunday he saw the bike and hopped on. I reminded him it was to big for him but he just looked at me as he rode off. I hadn't realized he had grown so much. We rode four hours on Sunday and only stopped because it was dark. My wife told me that as soon as he got home from school yesterday he rode it until dark. When I got home today he was out riding around the neighborhood until we made him come in.
He walks in the door, looks me in the eye and says "Now I know why you love riding road bikes so much, it's like flying."
Just before he headed off for bed he asked "Can we go on a really long ride this weekend?"
It's sort of like Christmas.

That's a great story. How old is he? I would LOVE for my son or daughter to want to ride with me.

Really nice, Thanks for that I will have my 6 yr old(in two weeks) read this in the hopes he may follow suit. Awesome.
Have you shown your son this thread? If not you should, I think he would get a bit more of a boost . . . . Hang on, just sign him up now . you do know what you have started here don't you? He will be on here too, he should be a crack er of a mechanic by work age?

Life has suddenly become crazy and so it wasn't until Saturday that we were finally able to get out and do that first 'real' ride.
We rode about 40 miles. We started on the greenway, east of town riding about 15 miles to the downtown area, stopping for ice-cream, then rode north about 10 miles to the farmers market, meander through the oldest part of town admiring the 100+ year old homes then headed back home.
He had been only riding in the drops and only knew 'full speed ahead' By the time we made it to the downtown area he had begun to learn to pace himself. His enthusiasm exceeded his lung and leg capacity but still seemed to have a good time. It was our first 'real' ride of the season and hopefully the beginning of spectacular year.

40 is a big total for a guy that age. Just wait until he gets his lungs and legs, you'll hang with him for a while...

It really is like flying. I think of that often while riding.
