This thing is suh-weeeet! One of the best colors Raleigh ever produced. I'm astonished at the comfortable clearances of that thing. Wild Raleigh inconsistency FTW!
I'm glad to hear the tires are working out so well. I'm ordering a set (non EL) for my Voyageur.
If the top tube is too short, the remedy is a longer stem, not a setback post. Your ass in relation to the BB shouldn't be a variable.

Thanks! I had it out today for about 2 hours of mixed road & light trail riding. Front tire 60 psi and rear 65psi. Super comfy in either application. If i were going to stay on the trail for a longer time (only about 2 miles) I would have dropped the pressure into the 50's. If they remain reliable, I will buy another set for my Riv. Figure I might as well tip the pitcher, throw my head back and finish the wide tire Kool-aid if they continue to work this well.

Bring your best ride out on the 26th. We'd love to see it. We set the start for 10:00 so folks would have time to drive down from Topton, etc.
fender1 will not even load the car as Berwyn is just down the street. Bring that green macheen.
The weather models are predicting sunny, clear, 62deg F. Poifect!!

Late comer to this thread. A basic question I have on this bike is that yes, it was assembled back mid-70s but mine came with a sticker for Raleigh winning the Tour De France and that was about '80 or '81. One may not be able to read it from the photo but that is what it says. It came with drop bars, Suntour mighty shifters which were always troublesome so I went to friction shifters and yes, I had some Carlton hoods, I put those on and the bike has a Carlton decal on the seat tube as well. So, sorry if this is old news but I had to say it, I tracked down the serial number once before and it sounds like it was made in the Worsop or Ilkeston factory back when the original Raleigh STs came out (all of this is a bit off the top of my head, so I hope I get the names right). Quality bike as far as that goes, came with a Simplex Prestige rear derailleur of all things. Foam was on the drop bars. Stronglight crank, Maillard wheels, front and back.

So what is your question?
If after breaking down the serial number to determine if the bike is in fact a Super Tourer, then if so it has apparently had a series of modifications over the years. Not an unusual situation IMO.

I think the question is about the TDF win sticker, which would reference the 1980 win by Joop Zoetemelk. It's conceivably a UK market 1981 model. The '79 and '81 US catalogs show a "Touring 14" but no Super Tourer:
'The Headbadge' - Vintage bicycle information
'The Headbadge': 1979 Raleigh Catalog - USA

Putting a decal of the winner of the Tour De France, '80 or '81 could only been done by Raleigh themselves, no one was asking a question, they were making a statement. Putting a decal on is hardly an after-factory modification.

Any post starting out with...
That appears to be statement leading UP to a question which I think you answered yourself when you discovered that someone slapped a later dated decal on your bike. It could have been anyone, and probably not "Raleigh themselves".

The decal is more transparent but it is this same design and whatever they call the wreaths to indicate a champion, this on a red bike is for the World Championship, :
So just a coincidence, another Raleigh bike, early '80s, with the same design decal for the TI winning team, after all, there is no reason Raleigh bike company would proclaim they won the Tour De France.

TI Raleigh,Legendary team, the last I knew that was still the only Tour de France, a Raleigh supplied cycling team has won.

Suntour Mighty Shifters were also knew back then, among the first Index shifters: https://www.mombat.org/Shifter_Museum.htm

I think my question was the logical one, why was it sitting in inventory so long, yes, dealers could have been given the decal from TI Raleigh and then, they put them on all of their Raleigh bikes celebrating the Tour win and possibly World Championship too in the other case.
For the record, I looked it up a few years ago, apparently, this bike is from one of the makes of Super Tourers, serial number WD 4002221. I've looked it up before and I am satisfied, as to say it is all after market modifications, that is an assumption.
Also, I need no help in tracking the serial number down, I did all that years ago, just posting it.

It's a low end Raleigh Record painted to be like an SBDU bike. It is not a Super Tourer and surely not an SBDU bike. It's likely from 1981, but the stamping is peculiar. My guess is that the frame sat in the Raleigh factory for a year (built in late 1979, left the shop in late 1980) and was a 1981 model.
Yes, Raleigh made some team Raleigh inexpensive versions and some expensive versions as well. Someone was selling one the other day I saw.
Still, that does not have much to do with it having a sticker showing Raleigh won the TdF.
