There's a reason they're called grail bikes....

Note the listing date....I'm in the blue, start at the bottom.
Gotta love it.

Ah, a scam. I sort of thought so.

Hi again

I'm now out of town for a time, I am travelling with my daughter to help her get over this difficult time. I do have satellite internet but no cell phone service and check my e-mail very regularly so if you need to get in touch with me for anything you can shoot me an e-mail.

The bicycle looks and work like new. The bicycle is already at the shipping company in Omaha NE sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with Escrow so this deal must go through them. According with Escrow you have 7 days from the time you receive the bicycle to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. I will ship it from here on my expense . Here is how it will work:

1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name, shipping address and phone #.
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to Escrow .
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment. After you receive the invoice from Escrow and decide if you want to continue the transaction and also want to make the payment you will have to let me know and I will start the shipping process and forward you all the details that you need to track your shipment online.
4. Escrow will contact me and I will ship the bicycle to you. After you receive the bicycle you will have 7 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the bicycle . If you will buy, then Escrow will release me the money .If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed.

I look forward to hear from you, I've attached you some pics with the bicycle.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. Please accept my condolences. I love to ride, and will take excellent care of it.
I'd love to come and see it tomorrow , and can bring the cash. No questions, the pic is 1,000 words.

first of all, i will need your credit card number and the 3 digits on the back. then we can talk. LOL. "She" seems very organized for a recently widowed person. could have been worse. the grammar suggests european scammers (not meant to offend anyone).

The very first response was the only clue you needed to know that wasn't going to end well. I willing to bet the number of times those scams actually work would astonish us.

I spotted that in Philly last week - I knew it was a scam based on the photos and specificity vs. price. The photos looked like copy/pastes from the web.

Anyone that sells bikes on CL get scammer emails. I sold a Trek 930 for $130 yesterday. I received the following email today. I have gotten a very similar scam email a t least a half dozen times but usually on pricey bikes I sell not on a $130 bike.

Thanks for the quick response, Just to let you know that am okay with
the condition and price. I would have really love to come for the
viewing but work frame wont make it possible but I am ready to make
instant purchase. My mode of payment would be in Certified Bank Check
via USPS or Fed Ex 1/2days delivery.

I'll arrange for a local pick up as soon as you get the check
cashed and have your money in hand , Kindly get back to me with your
the following details so I can make out payment asap.

Name:
Address:
City:
State:
Postal Code:
Cell Phone Number:
Agreed price to sell :

And as soon as this is provided, the payment will be overnight to you
and i will let you know when its mailed out. Thanks and i hope we
handle this in good faith.

I tell them that just give their agent cash and he can pay me when he picks up the bike. They always go away.

This one has so many red flags comming up all I see is a pretty storm of red. I spot no less than 25 indicators of a likely scam on the selling method and another dozen with the bike itself. Even on legit cash deal the bike kinda sucks for the price not so great alloy frame with barf paint and junk low end chinese fork. Don't know what the hell the components actually are but they are friggin ugly. One can buy a similar bike no issues from Amazon or a bigger dealler for under $500 new.

For sale: Holy Grail Bike.

This is the actual bike Jesus rode to the last supper, and he straddled it as he poured wine for the 12 epistles. No fotos available, as teh camera burst into flame when I attmempted to shoot pichers. Think "Raiders of the Lost Arc" and you get the idea. Very dangerous. Sertificate of authen ticity signed by Pope John Paul III. Hes the only one to ride it in over a thousand years, and only on Easter Sundays around the Vatican. Paint is ok, original decals mostly gone. Needs new tires. Very early high-end Campynolo running gear; very rare. Will need you address for shipping and insurance, around $300 worldwide...

Yep, a case for Harold Finch and John Reed, but I'd let Fosco take the shot.

They use the shotgun approach, same as scammers do with senior citizens and the electorate....
