Don't you just hate it when........................

You open a old thread only to find the OP has deleted all his Photobucket pictures and you only have three pages of comment on how beautiful the bike is you can't see. Just sayin.......

....You tear down the bike, clean up all the components, one by one while PB Blaster sits in the seat tube.
Three weeks later, everything's ready to go, and yep, the seat post is still stuck. You put it in the bench vise and it turned the bench.

....You're riding behind a guy and he has a grease spot on his R seat stay....

....The part you just sold or traded is now the one you need.

....You find the strand of cable that's causing repeated flats.
With your finger when you ran it quickly around the inside of the tire.
Now you have to clean up that pesky blood, and the band-aid gets all greasy.

That also happens when the discussion is centered on a now-long-dead link to an e-bay or Craigs List post. Much better when they capture and upload the picts and/or text to the forum, especially when it deals with a real classic.

My other pet peeve is when people create a new thread using a vague topic like "I'm so pissed!" or "I have a problem" or "Help!". Rather than "Why did my Simplex break?" or "Three flats in three days. Why?" or "Man bites dog!"

Don't you hate it when you keep an old 27" wheelset for years without using them, then finally decide to toss em because you are sick and tired of looking at them... only to have your neighbor across the street trash pick and lean em on his house so you can keep looking at em!

You're truing that wheel off a recent project, and it's almost done, just a little bit more tension and it's perfect. PING! There goes a spoke head across the room.

You're carefully feeding a used cable that's in good shape and you only need to get it past the RD barrel adjuster. You pull it through only to have one wire catch and ball up on the other end!

You're wrapping your drop bar and you've made sure the overlaps look perfect. Then you discover there isn't enough tape to finish at the top!

You're cleaning a set of dirty hoods that aren't torn or dried out. They seem pliable and good. Spray some waterless degreaser product (ie. LA Awesome) on scrub them clean as new and they begin to soften and turn to goo afterwards.

You're pedaling away and discover chain suck.

You put the bike you just bought alongside you in your 2-seat P/U truck, and halfway home, the pinch-flat goes "KAPOW!" just inches from your right ear -(with the windows closed ).

You go for a shake down cruise taking extra tools for the expected adjustments, then find you pick the wrong size tool to adjust your saddle after it points to the sky after a bump.

You swap a 6sd freewheel for a 7spd, make all the RD limit adjustments and find the "friction" mode of the Accushift bar con still has detents, preventing smooth shifting.

You make sure the 7mm Allen is in the tool bag, you have had it for 30years, and it disappeared (in additon to the first issue)

There is finally a great day to commute, you get all your gear set up and after getting to work, realize you forgot your water bottle. Senior moment cause you discover a water bottle at your desk just incase this happens!

you get a flat on a tubular, period. Not only a flat but it is a vintage tubular that is very hard to find and it has a 1/4" wood screw in the middle of the tread. Its the second gloreous ride on them and you paid only $20 for the pair that sell for $200 on the bay.

The stupid little computer that you bought with your bike in 1997, that has served you well is dropped. Now the speed and clock don't show up on the screen but the other info is still available as you toggle through the data, just no realtime display. Some fool thinks a NOS of the same one is worth $160 on bay!

I wish there was a better story, , it was donated to our coop by a one of our volunteers.

some college kid wanted it just for the hubs, we obliged, i asked him what he wanted with the rest of the frame, and he said he was going to scrap it, i asked how much he wanted for it , says.. " you can have if you can cut the hubs out now.. i hate unlacing rims" so i cut the hubs out and i kept the rest... the frame is in great shape for a 68, no rust or paint chips, the fenders are toast completely rotted through. everything else but the bars and saddle are in great shape.

everything has had a dip in Vinegar and is currently awaiting re-assembly, after i find the parts i need of course...

...when half of your quick-link decides to go AWOL and you're 30 miles from home.
...when a tire decides it has worked enough and you are 30 miles from home and you promised your sweetie you'd be home by X o'clock.
...when the one wrench you need is the last one at the bottom of a tangle tools in your toolbox.

And another common thing it does around heah is start out sunny with blue sky and a forecast for sun, and then turn solid clouds and cold, strong northwest wind halfway through the afternoon. If "they" say it will be sunny, don't believe them.

The weather man fails to mention the 25mph wind gusts for later in the day.. And that later in the day just so happens to be when you are peddling into them..
