Through the years I have seen a few variations on the "Legnano Blue" which to me looked like it might have been a translucent turquoise or blue over silver.
One of the first quality bikes I admired through C. Hardings's Westwood Cyclery shop window long ago, a full Campagnolo model with Universal centerpull brakes. The bike was at eye level and I immediately noticed the Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur, so cool looking.

The other item would be very hard to replicate, the spray masked down tube graphics. I just thought those were so cool.

So it goes.

Recently I saw on ebay a sistership of my first road bike, same too big for me size too. Brought back memories but not enough nostalgia to put in a bid, I do not know what it finally sold for, just as well if it continued to stay cheap.

One other thing about a 1962 Legnano is that the pin striping and logo were hand painted, not decals. I love that!

How long did the stenciled down tube graphics continue? And yes, I liked the hand painted striping, but in the 60's and 70's a number of brands had that.

A number of years later the Mondia Special with the airbrushed tube ends had loads of decorative striping.

Wow! That is just beautiful to say the least. Once bike is here I will look it over well and then start dismantling to dig further. I plan to visit a restorer in Brooklyn with a solid reputation in a few weeks to discuss next moves. I might just keep it black with white on head and seat tube. I have a Raleigh Professional that might become the donor bike for Campy Record and Nuovo Record parts. The Raleigh frame is pretty rough and riding a bike from 1962 would be fun, except for the hills around here. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for the reply. Jeff
