my 60 something Px-10

In May 2008 I picked up this Pug Px-10 off of craigslist for about $100.

It was horribly spray painted white. It had a replacement fork, a mishmash of crappy and ok parts.

The 40 something owner said that he got it in college, sprayed it and had a friend build it up. It'd been sitting in his basement for years.

in August 2009 I got around to stripping the frame down in preparation for a new life.

In August 2011 I took it to Bilenky in Philadephia and had some things added to the frame.

I got two sets up water bottle bosses, a pump peg, a brase on for a rear light on the seat tube. While it was there I also had Stephen repair in old Mafac rack and add a light mount to it.

5 months later I moved to California, but before I did I left the frame with Rob, a forum member so that his friend could paint it.

it took a bit of doing, but eventually sometime in early/mid 2013 the frame made it's way back to me now painted in a dark sparkly blue. I went ahead and painted the nervex lugs with a gold paint pen. They came out ok, though I might have been doing a little drinking that day.

As the bike has a french BB i had to either find the parts from 5 years earlier in all my crap which had been moved across the country, or buy new stuff. I got to sourcing stuff. I took my time. The bike sat another year

Now fast forward to a few month ago. I got the bb sorted out. I'd alos decided I would do a mostly French build, but with modern shifting. Even after all that time I had never measured what size tires would fit. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the bike would fit either 650b x 38-42's or 700 x 32's. Both with fenders. Rando style was what I was after, and already having a hetre bike, I decided to stick with 700's.

Yesterday at lunch i picked up the last thing I really needed to buld the bike. 700x32 Gb's. Last night I stayed up until 1am working and I ended up with this.

it's got:
- Campy 9 speed ergo's
- stronglight triple
- campy mirage long cage rear mech
- suntour front
- grand bois 32's
- a crappy seat post that is getting replaced with a 60's Simplex unit on monday.
- Berthoud Cork saddle
- Berthoud bar ends
- GB bars
- itm ambrosio stem
-mafac gold center pulls.

still to be done:
- probably hammered honjos , later
- the seat post i mentioned
- I will probably change the bar tape to better match the saddle
-front and rear lights
- it will probably get a Schmidt front dyno hub/wheel

I just took it for a quick spin this morning and I think I'm going to love it.

Great-looking bike!

Peugeot S/Ns are notoriously inconsistent, but they generally used 6-digit numbers in the 1960s and 7-digit in the 1970s, with the lead digit being the last digit of the year. (My 1980's S/N started out B0, where the 0 denotes 1980.) The lugs would indicate 1960s or early 1970s, before plainer lugs became fashionable.

Crazy cool build. Love the colour and the way that Berthoud saddle looks with the build. The way you've set up the cockpit looks extremely comfortable for long rides, too. One of the great things about getting a bike in the condition yours was in is that you basically have free reign to do whatever you want with it without worrying about originality. Well done!

Glad to see it done! It turned out great! I need to show Keith (painter) a picture of it. The color is from a late 2000's Subaru Legacy FYI.

Nah, Roger M was just trying to annoy me based on a pet peeve I mentioned in another thread.

Oh and, thanks for the compliment.

also, thanks for the compliments people.

I was having some trouble where as this was happening in the granny ring only.

possibly a 10 speed chain, TA ring teeth compatibility issue. I swapped out the 26t TA granny ring for a Sugino 28t granny ring and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Chain suck dude. Mtb'ers get it a lot, the slightly bigger chainring will reduce the Occurance.

Looks nice. I love a nice modern drivetrain on a cool old bike.
