It's easy to ride a corn cob, even for an old guy like me!! Oh, I hardly ever use the inner chain ring, I hate getting it dirty. Most of my other bikes have a similar setup.

I don't remember exactly what ratio was on my Lemond but it was pretty narrow. Consequently, being Campy Record it shifted like butter.

Oh, just for the fun of this, now that many pictures have been posted. I built this Regina from spare cogs a couple of years ago. Thought it might interest a racer who lives where they are some steep and hilly sections. Or possibly they live at the top of a hill and need to ride up it bonked at the end of doing a few hours of interval training.

Technically not a corncob, but in paying homage to the great racers of a bygone era. 14-16-18-20-22-31

I have several 13-18 freewheels.
On my Duell I have a 12-19 8 speed cassette, and I have 16-22 7 speed.

From 17 to 23, the 2-jump makes more sense to me than 1-jump.

I do have a few corn cobs around & plan on setting up one of my 7spd Accushift wheelsets with one in the future combined with a triple crankset. While not a true corn cob I road a 13-21 with a 52/42 crankset on my Schwinn SS everywhere I went, I never used the 42 around here as it is flat as a pancake.

Glenn

Looking at this photo the freewheel on the right is what came on my SS & the freewheel on the left is what would have been stock.
