Sigh.....

Bought two large flange Campagnolo hubsets at local swap in February for a good price. Should have looked closer. One rear is cracked and on the other rear the flange is bent. Not a lot, but bent and soft. Oh well. At least I have some spare parts now.

Bummer. Do you think the seller knew of the defects? Any way to return them?

If a hub is bent a little bit can it be bent back at all? Or is it toast? I have a high flange one that I was trying to get the freewheel off of. The previous owner had cut the spokes and I could not build it up to remove the freewheel. I had the freewheel in a vise and was using a chainwhip. It slipped out and hit/fell to the floor. Now one of the flanges has a minor bend in it.

Hard to say. But I had the opportunity to examine and only did a cursory exam. I know the one seller pretty well and am considering dropping him a line.

It can be bent back, but the flange is soft. By that I mean it seems to bend pretty easy. Not that I go around bending flanges, but it seemed to bend much easier than other Campag hubs I have worked on. Kind of strange. Almost like it had been heated for some reason.

One hub reads like it is a desk accessory now.

Hey Lynn, it may just be the nature of the way we look at things during a swap meet. I'm usually a little in a hurry to find the next "good deal". I got a great deal on a set of Challenge Fango cross tires at the same swap. Yesterday I opened the bag I left the expo with to install the tires on the '62 Paramount gravel bike and there was only one. Probably left the other on the sellers table.

Yeah...been there, done that. Bought some really nice tubulars at the swap a few years ago. No cores in the valves. Got cores and inflated them. One had sidewall damage that did not show unless inflated.
