Researching GT titanium road bike frame serial number
I have an older GT titanium road bike and I recently looked under the bottom bracket to get the serial number off of the frame. However in researching on the internet I do not see any mention of a GT road bike serial number pattern that matches what I have found on the frame. The number I have is S8HT00193. It is a very large frame with a seat tube C-T distance of 64cm - 65cm and a C - C distance of 59cm - 60cm. From what I can read of the decal I believe the name on the top tube says Forte but I am not positive about the last letter. In researching on Bikepedia, I see GT made a titanium Forte model with a carbon fork in 1998 and the largest frame size shown is a 60cm which is what I believe this is. Also Bikepedia says the MSRP for the bike in 1998 was $2675 so I am now wondering what an equivalent quality bike today in 2014 would cost. Bikepedia says it originally had a Shimano 600 Ultegra component group which was pretty top of the line in 1998 I think.
Can anyone help me decipher this serial number so I can know a little more about this frame set? |
Pictures please! It will help.
Sounds fricken cool, lots of people love their Ti GT's. |

Can anyone help me decipher this serial number so I can know a little more about this frame set? * GT had bikes made at several factories during this era. |

As requested here are some photos of the bike.
It has Mavic Cosmos wheelset. a Control Tech stem with a King headset, a Profile SC carbon fork (never heard of this brand) and an older Avoset O2 seat. |
I WISH I had a GT road bike to research, a steel one !

Very cool bike. I had a Ti Edge (or Edge Titan) for about a year.
There seemed to be conflicting stories on it's origin; wether it was outsourced to a Ti specialist here or if GT set up for Ti in Colorado. |
