I get a pretty fair number of comments of appreciation for my Katakura Silk. Much as I love classy and understated paint, I tend to get seduced by chrome.

Me too. Here's my '84 Raleigh Super Course. Chrome forks, chrome seat stays, chrome chain stays.

1982-ish Ron Cooper with decidedly not period correct componentry (Campy 10-speed). I love the way all my bikes look, but this one is just a bit prettier than the rest, at least to my jaundiced eye.

From the perspective of one who wields a torch, few bikes are any nicer than a Cooper... the workmanship is astounding.

Did he mentor any other builders of note other than Mooney?

As far as I know, he never took on an apprentice or had any help until his last few years of building.

You'll get no argument from me. I am fortunate to have the Cooper, and I love riding it.

From a workmanship standpoint, I'd have to say that the Eisentraut and the De Rosa I am also fortunate to own are in the same league as the Cooper, and I love the way they all look and ride. I'd hate to have to choose among them for quality of ride - all are a little different and all are tremendous. But the Cooper is a shade of blue that nudges it ever so slightly ahead in the pure looks department.

That was strange. We went from June 2014, to now, with no posts?

Thanks for getting it going again Maxacceleration, I hadn't seen it yet!

I just looked through the entire thread, and didn't see a single red De Rosa.

Odd...

So, here's mine.

Mid-80s Sannino with no original parts. Built with mostly 8 speed Campy drive train and brake parts and modern (new) wheels and fit parts (saddle, seat post, stem, bars).

Man, this thread is GREAT!!!

I love seeing what people do with their bikes- seeing what amounts of "modern" "makes" the ride, what kind of customization turns this into their bike.

Here's my prettiest bike. 1986 Trek 400 Elance. Updated to the peak of technology of 1993.

That was an substantial thread bump - but as I was not a member at the time it was "born" I take this opportunity to flaunt my 2010 Masi.

I love all my bikes but this one has a special place in my heart. Frame ordered at the Vigorelli velodrome in Milano, from Alberto Masi, and then built up by me (wheels, etc). It is a special feeling having your own initials stamped on the bottom bracket shell...

I do not say it is the the most beautiful bike there is - but it is not ugly and I hold it dearest.

This may not appeal to everyone but I think it's pretty sweet! 1989 Giordana Antares:

This is also really nice, the paint is amazing in the sunlight. Fuji Opus III:
