Is this Fausto Coppi frame a bargin for project build
I have an opportunity to buy this frame for $250. It was purchased new from planet-X by the original owner in 11/2013. It was advertised as a Guerciotti record. Turns out he was mislead. It was powder coated because the original paint was pealing. It has never been on the road. The sale price is over 50% less of what he has invested in it. The frame is the right size and made of columbus thorn tubing. It's really what i'm looking for. Any opinions on the qualuity of the frame and the asking price? ATTACH=CONFIG]384210[/ATTACH]

Without proof of brand or tubing type, I would pass. Who knows what lurks under that thick powdercoat?

I doubt anybody with something to hide would advertise Thron tubing, as that's not the creme brûlée of Columbus tubing…so it's probably legit. Based on that it seems a little high at $250, but if it's your perfect fit and otherwise floats your boat, it's not a terrible price…far as I can tell from one very dark photo, anyway!

If it's what you've been looking for - go for it. The photo of the frame is difficult to see but I take your word for it that it's a Fausto Coppi branded frame. I know I would like a frame with his name on it. Thron tubing is OK and not the 'creme brûlée' as 'unworthy1' points out but that doesn't really matter if you like the frame. I also agree that $250 is a little high but not that high that it takes your breath away.
It should build-up to be a nice bike provided 'thinktubes' is being a little cautious - but he could be right about the powder coat hiding tube faults.
Me - for $250 and the fact that it's what I wanted and the right size to boot - I'd buy it.

Forgot to mention, The frame is stamped Coppi on top of BB and Maschiagi on underside of BB, which leads me to neleive it's a Coppi frame.
