Oops. Accidental Merckx Corsa Extra purchase...

It wasn't supposed to happen. Honest.

I've been out of the C&V scene for a while, enjoying a CX build from this winter, but when an Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra popped up locally, with a ridiculously high shipping price, I had to have a look at the advert.

It turns out it's Columbus SLX, now I'm no tubing snob but the chance to own a hand-brazed frameset made by Belgian masters from Italy's finest steel appealed.

It's also in my size. Hmm.

So I put in a low bid, the seller's shipping costs & odd auction end time kept interest low, and I accidently won it for €160. Don't tell my wife.

The eBay item number is 271522171174 if you want to have a look at the seller's pictures, otherwise I'll post some up when I've pickedit up this week.

Here are a couple of sample pics of similar frames:

    And so it begins.

Sorry to read of your accident(al) purchase.

What!!!!!!?????--------It's a beauty! Great buy and a colour scheme I think is the pick of the Merckx colour schemes. Some people are so lucky.

    P.S. I won't tell your wife.

    Thanks Gary.

Here are the original pictures from the seller´s ad:

I´m thinking a Shimano parts bin build, 2x9 with down tube shifters.

    I'll second that.

One bike I enjoyed riding above most of my other bikes was a Merckx Corsa Extra. I'm sure yours will prove to be similar.

I "accidentally" bought my Ciocc (also SLX). Haven't looked back.

That Merckx is a nice pickup. Can't wait to see it built.

I will probably disappoint you all with the build, it´ll be a parts bin special rather than beautiful brushed aluminium Campy 11-speed, but it´ll be functional.

    External BB (Tiagra-level)
    Modern 105 RD
    Some random FD
    Tektro brake levers
    Dura Ace DT shifters
    2x9 drivetrain
Either new Tiagra dual pivot brakes, or NOS Shimano AX Adamo brakeset

    How much was the girl?

Accidentally buying an Eddy Merckx.....that's like accidentally hiring a hooker....."honey, I just made the offer, didn't know it would be accepted!"

Sorry to hear about your accident.
Looks like a nice enough bike except for the PO's personalized decals and pantographed initials on the crown & seat stays.
It's easily remedied though: You can cover them up, or legally change your name to Eddie Merckx so people won't get confused when they see you ride by.

    I was thinking that myself.

My wife would hate me for saying that- whenever we watch those 'home flippy shows' she's always got something bad to say about the fancy laid floors and is giddy when they inevitably tear them out.

Congrats! These are the accidents we enjoy. No matter how you will build it, it's going to be a performing ride.
I also unexpectedly acquired a Corsa Extra SLX last month. So, I understand your feelings. A Merckx has been on my want list for some time.

    Is there a club?

Barchettaman had to get the steal of a lifetime with his price. I jumped when I saw one in my size and with the Campy group. Are these Eddys, with the SLX frames, also called the "DeRosa" inspired frames? Or is that just someone being inventive/stupid?
