It seems the main difference between the S/P and the 11.8 is: The 11.8 has a double front Crank set not a Triple, 250g tires and Altus LT derailleurs, and aluminium pedals unlike the more durable KKT Pro Vic The SP is more designed for Heavy Alpine Touring

Sweet bike. I built up an 11.2 for my wife. She loves it. I bet it will look great when you get it all cleaned up and ready to ride.

Note that the lower cage plate on the derailleur has spun around. My original Deore derailleur did that, too- I think because the lower plate was held in place by flats on the center screw. It was incredibly easy to twist the plate around with one slap of the chain.

I'd replace the derailleur with something reliable, like a SunTour V-GT.

Do you have to carry supplemental oxygen to ride something that tall?

Yes I have Two lungs each are probably bigger than both of yours lol

That is the one from the guy up on Capitol Hill. I looked at that one. I hope it was nearly free as the chrome was rusting off of it. The frame lugs are gorgeous. Check inside the tubes and cross your fingers!

I guess it's about time to start a Voyageur SP club!


The Voyageur SP is a really special bike. I'm not so sure about the 1982 version- but the later iterations were entirely different frames than the Voyageur.

Yeah That one the one with the bottom bracket that had ZERO bearings? yeah that one lol. There was thankfully plenty of grease in the tubes and on them as well, well there was until I degreased the entire bike. And I totally scored at Recycle Cycle So I made out Just fine on the Long Way North trip.

Am I dreaming or was the chrome flaking off that thing? I passed based on the chrome. I figured I could have a plating shop dechrome the frame and then I could powder coat it, but that was way too much for me. The front rack however is the stock rack! pretty rare.

Since it is a Rider for me I didn't care about eh chrome flake I am going to have is blasted to check the tubes etc... and then I will paint the Chrome with that new spectrachrome OR New Fantachrome™ ... it's an Idea anyway

I think you can also go to a plating shop and have the frame "dechromed" in a tank, which may also derust it as well. I have an S12S fork I may have dechromed and then powder coat or paint. Too many projects at the moment.
