Bianchi Rekord 848

Hi everyone,

This is somewhat of a repost because i think i had posted this thread in the wrong section of the forum.

Anyway, I found a bike called a bianchi rekord 848 that's for sale at a LBS. I was just wondering if i could get any extra info on the bike because i haven't been able to find anything about this particular model. I was just looking for stuff like if its high end or low end and if it has a good reputation. I've got some pictures here too. All replies are welcome!

Looks pretty nice. There is quite a bit online; maybe you need a new search engine.

I've looked at all of those links and none of the bikes shown resemble mine aside from one which is just someone selling theirs, plus its in german so i can't read it. Google translate made an attept to translate it but it still makes no sense.

Correct! it is a rekord 848 but it is the rekord 848 12-v (whatever that means) if the 12 is referring to the # of speeds, mine is a 12 speed too so it just makes no sense...

It is also a different year because it doesn't have the piaggo emblem above where "bianchi" is written on the seat post

It has some similarity to mine. At least the fork and head badge.

I like it a lot.

That headbadge is a real weird one. I haven't seen it on any other bianchi. Would you happen to know the model of yours? Or the Year?

So the bike is an '83? Alright that's helpful, thanks. I still can't find an ounce of information for the rekord 848 model. I'm seeing lots of rekord 748's but no 848's... Could this bike be imported from another country?

Nice looking Bianchi. Is there a date on the RD? '83/84ish sounds about right. T-Mar would know this better than I but alas he has foresaken us.

Anyway back before '89 Canadian market Bianchis were different from the US models. How close they to the European models I don't know but the Rekord (Record) name seems to be more common on European bikes.

The kit looks similar to a US market Nuovo Alloro or Nuovo Racing or later Campione de Italia, CampI derailleurs, Modolo brakes, Ofmega cranks branded Bianchi? Yes the 12V or Velo would denote a 6spd but it is possible you bike left the line before they started putting that on.

Nice looking Bianchi.

Another thing that puzzles me is the fact that the brakes on this bike are the black modolo speedy's. I haven't seen those brakes on any other bianchi...

Also. There is a headbadge on this bike, not a sticker. I can't seem to find one similar to that anywhere else...

They were until '89 when Bianchi USA bought out the rights or something to distribute in Canada now they are pretty much the same. .

DVC45 posted his bike that has it. I think these were an on and off thing but again more common to European models.

I doubt it was special order I don't Bianchi did that. It may come from Europe by a previous owner. If it was built in Italy it certainly was imported fro Europe!

As I said I think this was an on and off thing. I have even seen Bianchis on ebay with a Piaggio headbadge.

Did you check for a date on the RD? are the cranks Ofmega?

FWIW; most bikes of this era did not change much year to year so don't let it drive you crazy, just enjoy riding it.

i personally think the headbadge is pretty cool! Yes i did check the cranks, they are ofmega, the rims are ambrosio elite, the crankset is campagnolo, the rear derailer is campagnolo but there is no indication of the year, It just says "campagnolo nuovo gran sport". I'm not sure about the rear cassette as it is a race cluster which looks to be a bit different from the cassette on the "nuovo racing" model. Could this be an upgraded part? Any idea of what the bike is worth? The seller is asking $700. I live in toronto so the market is pretty hot for these bikes. I'm just looking for all this info because i want to know whether the bike is worth the dollars.

No it is over priced by a good 300. The freewheel is likely just a different spec or a replacement part.

Oh... Ok, I'll have to think about this one then. It's been refurbished according to the website so that must be why the price is so high. I figured the freewheel was a different spec although the seller said it was 100% original. Does that mean it came like that? Last question i promise. Is this bike an above mid but below top level bike as advertised or would you say otherwise? (I'm relatively new to the vintage bike world, sorry if I sound like I'm beating a dead horse with all my questions)
