Velo Orange muguards

I'm thinking of upgrading the mudguards on my Dawes bicycle to Velo Orange mudguards , question is, Do the mudguards from V.O. fit 27" wheels as their 27"/700c range claim the do or have most of you downsized to 700c's ?
I'd be thankful for any input for or against, thankyou.

Can't help with the fit question, but I HIGHLY recommend picking up another pair of drawbolts and drilling the fenders to use two for each stay, ala Honjo. I did that with mine and have had none of the problems with rattling, breakage, etc that others have reported.

I had the VO hammered fenders on my classic bike that was converted to 700c tires, and they seemed to fit perfectly. Little rattling in e rear so I put a piece of tire tube between the bracket & fender which stopped the noise. I had the same question as you so took one of the fenders and slid it over my 27" tire on a different bike and it was a close fit. In part I think it had to do with the size of the tire and the distance between the front tire and the crown fork.

Im interested in what others say. They are nice fenders.

Fenders intended for 700c work great for 27" wheels, yes. Fender line and rattling issues are almost always a function of the installer. Take your time, get the right parts and do it right.

VO makes several different models in several different widths. I've got the extra long 45mm wide smooth stainless ones over 700 x 28 tire with lots of room to spare, tire-wise.

In fact, that's probably the same fender Don Marco is running on his orange Schwinn, above? (Lovely bicycle, Don Marco!)

Due to frame clearance issues, however, I never quite got the fender line exactly how I wanted it (mostly, the brake bridge is really too low to comfortably fit the fender) and will likely soon be moving them over to a 27" wheeled bike with lots more frame and fork clearance.

Having enough room to squeeze them in makes a huge difference in fitting fenders. The VO hardware kit came with everything needed to mount the fenders nice and solid, but it does require some skill.

Looks like a very inviting trail in that pic! Makes me want to jump out of work onto a bike and get that ride feel with pine needles under the wheels! I agree with ColonelJLloyd regarding fit and attachment. VO sells leather washer kits but you can source those from anywhere at all. Make your own washers or bushings that match the project and never overtighten when using them. They end up tearing, and then you have a risk of them flopping into the wheel at any time.

I set up VO fenders for customers and I tell them, if you're going to get fenders and don't mind using the widest on your bike, even if larger than your intended tires. Do it. Because later on, it will give you more options down the road.

Also, to help with putting your tires on and off. VO does sell great mounting kits included with the fenders, but there an added little set that helps if you have to move the fenders at all when taking the tire on and off horizontal dropouts...called the spring think. It can be helpful.

Nice bike Don Marco, Concurring with everything everyone has said, my main worry was the mudguard line looking aesthetically pleasing to the eye, the stay length was my main concern as many manufacturers claim a 27 reach which the guards do arc over but fall short on stay length, first fitting was via two old brake block holders drilled to act as extensions ( lasted a week ) second fitting I bolted the stays onto the upper bolts of a rear rack to gain 10 mm. Bearing in mind the mudguards I have are standard middle of the road, when i upgrade to something a little more shiny and at £40-£50 I really need to get this right or it's an expensive mistake to make.
At the moment i'm running Michelin World Tour 27x1 1/4s but they are more like 1-3/8

I'd say it's hard to be 100% positive if you're going to have clearance for fenders on 27in wheels with the VO fenders. My Grand Jubile cuts it pretty close in some areas, namely at the fork bridge and chainstays, but nothing a little finessing shouldn't overcome. For me, it was a tedious process but it works well with no chatter. Run 27 1x1 1/4s.

I had my VO hammered fenders mounted on my Moto GJ (has 700c wheels - not my doing). Looked alright with plenty of clearance. Now, though, would like to transfer them over to a Mixte and I did a dry run and see there's not the recommended 8-10mm between tire & fender, plus they don't have the quick break away feature that SKS & others have. I sort of worry about something getting stuck up the front fender and causing me to crash. I'm a careful (read cautious) and slower rider, exclusively in town with stop & go traffic, so I would hope that, in that scenario, I would hear the stuck object and would be able to come to a stop without crashing.

So, opinions on fenders/27" wheels/tire distance?

Thanks. GORGEOUS bikes you guys. Really stunning on all of them.

I had just 1 cm clearance at the brake bridge on my Specialissima. They fit well, and look good really tight up against the tire. Only problem I ran into was there wasn't enough room for locknuts and anti-rattle washers. I just used regular nuts with a spot of superglue, and have lived with some excess rattle.

I have to concur with Velocivixen there are some great looking bikes and fenders ( Mudguards over here ) Think in the Autumn it's gonna be a respray an clean up and spoil the bike with a new set of V.O. guards for the wet weather.
