I think its a 72 or so.. Raleigh Superbe 3 speed. My first ever 3 speed. I love it. Its retro and original down to the rack and seat bag. The generator hub works as well.

Who can tell me the year of this thing?

Brooks saddle, locking steer tube..NO KEY though..bummer, matching rack. Cant wait to strip it down to nothing and clean it and build it back up again.

You'll find two digit/year date codes on the rear hub and on the dynohub, but self-adjusting brakes, decals, and crankset would point to 1974/75.

Looks to be a deluxe Eurpean model with full extras, paint rack fenders locking fork(any chance you have the key), dyno hub lighting package pretty much everything offered likely a custome order circa 1972 or so. The hubs and lighting stuff should have pretty easy to read understand British codes. You should be a able to find one or more clear manafacture date codes on this bike. Very nice example it is rare to see one of these with full extras intact and complete in good working condition.
This bike would be a keeper if I had it.

There are very few bikes at this point that I would add to my fleet but this is one that I'd find a home for. This bike is in terrific shape and will make a great rider.

Very classy. I can appreciate why you are so excited. A wonderful bike. Perhaps a visit to a local locksmith may sort out the lost key problem.

+1 These have a 1inch round British tumbler lock that while maybe a bit pricey for what it is a first rate locksmith sould be able to replace or replicate make a key for.

Wow. thanks for the link. Im pretty sure Im going to want a key for it. We are asking the original owner if they could try to find it. I am the SECOND owner of this bicycle. It belonged to my young neighbors father inlaw. He was going to bring it to good will. they knew I was into bicycles and asked if I wanted it. Honestly I'm not a 3 speed expert but after seeing all the features on this bicycle I knew it was a little special. I haven't paid him yet for it. What do you guys think its worth? He left the price up to me.

I would say they bike is worth $400-600 potentially. Yet sense he was going to give it away I would go with splitting the differnce and pay him maybe $200-250 you both walk away feelling it's a better than you hoped for.

Check the prices of a good working vintage dyno lighting package on ebay and online.

Cant wait to clean this bicycle up. I think the paint and decals are an 8 out of 10 and everything should clean up rust free and hopefully shiny. This bicycle sat in a garage for probably the last 30 or 40 years. Barely riden.

I have the same bike, in green. Definitely a keeper. "Old Bike Trader" can cut new keys for you; you just need the cylinder number. If you're lucky, your bike will have the NGN type cylinder with the number stamped on the face. Otherwise you'll need to remove the fork and pull the cylinder to get the number.
