You guys are hitting all the peculiar twists and turns of my omnivorous musical soul! Sun Ra, Pentangle, Sidney Bechet, BoxTops, FZ, Don Van Vliet, David Bowie, Buck Owens, Carter Family, Etta James, The Band, Memphis Minnie, Upsetter... What a lineup!

So what can I contribute to complement all this?

Who would think there's more than one song about Eva Braun Late 70's new wave: Bob Geldorf's Boomtown Rats

The music that made kids my age learn to play the guitar:

Buzzcocks - "Ever Fallen in Love?" (Live - 1978) - YouTube

And the only footage I've ever found showing what made Skip Spence a great frontman.

Moby Grape-Hey Grandma Live - YouTube

San Fran bands had their own distinct wavelength(s). I once saw the Tubes, and the Whipping Lady, in full leather, rode Fee Waybill around the stage like a horse. He, dressed only in a diaper. My date of the evening was aghast. Good way to sort out the wheat from the chaff on a date.

The guy was amazing in a bizzare sort of way. Zappa/Beefheart LP was a big mainstream stretch for Beefheart.
