That looks very nice in a not impossibly small size too...
Seems to have all the boxes ticked, but I'd be a bit wary about it being used on a "turbo trainer", as the owner pointed out, with the areas of corrosion. If one is interested in getting the bike, make sure the stem and seapost are not stuck because of it. It will also be good to get close up pics of the mentioned corrosion to see how bad it is. Expect corrosion any place where sweat can drip and collect. All the bosses and braze-ons along the TT and DT.
Sad that such a top line classic racing bike was used as a stationary trainer "slave" bike, and it sounded like that it was not just for a short time.....

Note the bike is in the UK and "buyer collects or will consider delivery within a reasonable distance."

That's a lot of extra stuff with it - if not trashed, meaningful value in parts.

I don't need it either (too small and I gotta Mk IV) but I'm curious - looks like black over spray on the head badge. Wonder why?

Also how hard is it to find out that you should shield the TT when the bike is a trainer mule? I made mine with an old towel tied a couple inches above the tube. Shields the DT too. Took 10 seconds.

That's cool. It says SB3409 on the BB shell. Now I know that the team bikes were built by Jan Legrand and he stamped the rider's initials underneath. So if this is a proper team bike, than it's probably Sid Barras' old bike from 1975, when Ti Raleigh turned Dutch, with Peter Post at reign. He brought a Dutch soigneur mr. Ruud Bakker and Dutch master frame builder mr. Jan Legrand to form the troika leading the team to be one of the most successful cycling teams of all times.

Barras left the team after that year. Seller though, states it is from 1979 in the ad title, but he doesn't substantiate this further in the ad.

So is this one built by Legrand? I think yes, judging from the seat stay caps, the open ends of the rear fork tubes and the cable 'gutters' on the BB shell. Considering there was no other rider with S.B. as initials (that I can think of/find on the interweb), I say this bike is from 1975.

PS IMO this bike should never ever be repainted in any way. I'm no chemist, but there must be other ways to stop it from decomposing.

SB is the normal prefix for an Ilkeston built frame. They are all "SBXXXX". Eg I own SB2091.

    That explains a lot

Still makes me wonder though, since I've seen team bikes with the initials… but would be too much of a coincidence innit?

If frame is not already trashed.

The rust above the BB looks ominous - VERY ominous!

These frames are not repairable as no-one ever knew G.O.D.'S secret braze mix for these 753 frames. The rust on the BB is not an issue as it is thick enough steel but the downtube may be KAPUT!

    Totally wrong I'm afraid.

I own SB833 which is a Team bike from 1975 though interestingly the cable guides on the top tube are very early.

SB is only for Specialist Bicycle - nothing more.

Because it states Team on the Top Tube does not mean it was a Team bike per se.

You are right in saying it would have the rider's initials - for instance the 3rd bike that was issued to Henk Lubberding in 1983 had HL.3.83 stamped on the BB where the 53.5 is on this frame.

Not sure about Legrand building it. Interesting to note though as my frame is identical in details and the TT cable guides this late is unusual I am led to believe by a local expert.

I agree with you on the painting but I think electrolysis is the only proper way to remove rust but it would also remove paint I am guessing or at least damage it.

The rust to the BB really does look bad.

Reynolds 753 was and still has to be silver brazed, as to not over heat the steel tubing.

    This is quite true.

However, my understanding is that the mix was not pure silver but a silver alloy. The composition of which was taken to the grave with G.O.D.

As an side, another strange thing on this bike is the stepped 753 sticker. Same as mine but I thought they 'levelled' the 753 numbers prior to '79. Do you know of anywhere that does decent repros of the original stepped ones.

I am planning on reproducing them myself if I cannot source them. I know of one place in the UK that has them but he will not sell any and will only apply them to frames refinished by them (but apparently the finish is really poor on their spraying). I heard a rumour and you never know if they are just grudges or genuine concerns that he gets his wife to spray frames. He advertises a guy's services who used to spray at Raleigh.

That guy, used to charge 40 for refinishing in Raliegh Team colours. Most charge around 300 now!!!

If I owned that bike, I'd remove the bottom bracket/downtube rust and repaint the area with matching paint, probably using a brush. It is on the bottom of the bike, so I wouldn't be too fussed about a less-than-perfect match. The bike is otherwise very pretty.

It's called silver brazing cause it's a mixture of silver and brass, nothing magical about that. H Lloyd decals makes all the Reynolds decals you would want.

    Here's my Team Pro.

Old Picture, now has different bars and white tape.

My SB1016 has stepped 753 markings so your dating of the "leveled" 753 decals is suspect.

No it's not suspect. I think you have misread what I said.

Mine is SB833. So yours is going to be 1975/1976 being so close at a guess. The gentleman who has SB3409 listed for sale is stating it is 1979 yet his has stepped numbers.

I simply said that I thought they levelled them prior to 1979 so if yours and the other gentleman with SB20** is less than SB3409 (which they are then the comment is still valid and correct.

Tried Lloyds - he doesn't have stepped originals.

NICE lug painting by the way on SB1016
