Faggin Tubes and ages
Hi all
I have a chance to buy a Faggin frame. Looks oldish, it has brazed loops under the BB to guide the gear cables, not a plastic stick on thing. Anyone know about what tubes they used to use? The lugs have the F cutout, it has braze ons for the shifters and a mech hanger on the rear dropouts. Seems like a good price, so I think I'm going to get it. The only disadvantage is that it's in very unoriginal finish!

I had a mid-80s Faggin that was built with Columbus TreTubi.

Show us picture! faggins were built of all Columbus (SL mainly) tre-tubi (3 main tubes of SL, remainder something cheaper), or Columbus Aelle. The seat post size will be a good clue. Cost (and resale value) may vary, but workmanship was always high and the ride will be excellent regardless of tubing used.

I wonder how many Faggins fell to the spray can as a result of homophobia. They did have some wild paint schemes, and some nice frame details. If you get it, I vote for giving it a pink fishnet resto and then ride the hell out of it.

For you ''cross the ponders', Murray Walker was a commentator on the F1 racing around the world, and was reknowned for saying things like "He can't fail to win from this position!!!" about 15 seconds before a blowout, crash, fuel running out etc.

Oooh just spotted you have Parkpres! I had a plated finish Tange Ultimate Superlight tubed mtb, was fantastic. A friend bought it from me when I moved to France, and afaik is still zooming round Bristol on it

Oooh, a fully chromed Faggin is definitely worth a look and a test ride. Good luck, and post pictures if you get it!
The Parkpre's I have are both excellent bikes. I used to race for Conejo Velo in Southern CA, and Kozi Yamakoshi's two sons were on the team. When he started Parkpre, he sponsored the Conejo Velo race team and we sort of became Team Park Pre (at least for the road team).
By the way, hoping you'll start a thread to show off your Colnago Titanio in Mapei livery!

It looks like it must be at least Tre-tubi and probably All SL tubing...looks great!
My only concern is whether the chrome shop knew what they were doing with a bike frame. There have been stories of "Hydrogen embrittlement" and other horrors when the insides of the tubing wasn't thoroughly cleaned out. But if it was shop familiar with chrome-plating bike frames, they will know all about it...

Thanks Unworthy. The seller says that thats what was under the paint, so I've emailed Faggin to see if they can help. On the down side the HS is HS (HS in French= Hors service, or in English, knackered. Any pun you have to explain should probably not be used in the first place, but hey ho...). The BB is also not happy, but I have yet to take it apart. Detail photos to come...

Ah-so, This was factory-plated chrome, and had a cromovelato finish, or transparent lacquer over chrome. Didn't look so much like that in the pictures that show original blue paint, but there you go. Again, I doubt that anything less than a top model would have been given this finish by Faggin, so probably NOT a budget (Tre-tubi or Aelle) frame!

Found a couple of flakes of original paint, looks like it was metallic. So my problem is now: do I strip the unidentified but rides really well NotGitane? I've not got much to spend on it, and the NGit is Nice simplex and stronglight. Would love to keep both...

It seems to be up there quality-wise. Chroming looks pretty good all over, bar a couple of points on the chainstay. Campag dropouts are solid with the screws running nicely. Weight on my unproven scales 2.8kg F&F, with BB and half a HS in. Seat post is 27.2.
