wanted: all black (700x23c) tire like the pasela
i haven't bought tires in quite a while that weren't panaracer paselas with a gumwall. it's been years! this is what i like:
- gumwalls look great on vintage bikes
- at $20ish/tire, they fit my budget
- even in the 23c size i prefer, they feel plush, like another brand's 25mm (or wider) tire
- they come in a flat protection (pt) tread
- they're easy to find online.
but sometimes you want an all-black tire, maybe for a late '80s bike with black hoods. what tire meets my needs as described above?
i know the pasela comes in an all-black sidewall, but they're difficult to find. do you know of a supplier? what about another panaracer model like the ribmo? anyone tried it? do they offer a pasela-like, plush ride?
what is your blackwall tire of choice that's sleek, inexpensive and plush?
thanks!

damn. what a deal. thanks!
i'll wait a bit and hopefully read some replies before pulling the trigger on those. i love paselas, but am open to trying something new since i never buy all-black tires.
wondering about the ribmo too.

yeah, i've found the wire beaded paselas are easier to mount than the folding ones. i don't know if this is just my experience or if it's somewhat universal.

Soma Express tires are made by panaracer. They are the Pasela tire with a reinforced sidewall. AEBike also has good prices on panaracer tires on their website.

yeah. the kendas kontenders currently on there remind me of those. i think the kendas are a little better.
what is on your team champion?
thanks for the recs. hmm ... the pic on their site is confusing:
which is it?
$24 with the pt flat protection. good deal, but they only have 23c in the tanwall.

Mountains Plus out in Mercer Island has $16 black Paselas, but it looks like they only go down to 25c. It'd give you a good excuse to bike across the I-90 bridge
I wish I had known about this place when I was dropping my kid off at Lake Samammish the other day.

I have to admit that most of the draw for Paselas, for me, is the thin tan sidewalls. Apart from super-high-end tires like Challenge or Vittoria, it seems that Panaracer makes all of the tires in that category.
If I wanted all-black tires, I'm not sure which one I'd go for.

Had a set of Vittoria Black wall's , can't remember the model but what I do remember is they were fast but harsh and prone to puncture.

OP: I'm currently running a Panaracer Stradius Sport, and can't really complain, though there are some slight uneven spots.
