Last day for The Old Shed...

Well, when I leave The Old Shed today, it ill be for the last time. All of the bikes and components have been passed on to others or sold as scrap metal. Kinda the end of an era for me, and feeling a wee bit sad about the change. Of course, few of us like change, however...

After busting my butt getting the house sold, emptied and closed(not to mention the swarm of grand kids that invade the cottage by the lake every summer), I intend to spend some serious time building and riding. Though I no longer actively seek bicycles, a couple did come my way this summer...

...a gorgeous Waterford, which will appear on my website next winter...

...and an acquired just a few days ago, 1955 CCM Rambler which I can't wait to get at tomorrow(pics and information to appear in months to come)...

So, the vodka is cooling, the other stuff is soon to be on a roll and the tool box is already at the summer cottage...

Never hesitate to attempt to hook up. My wife loves it when I get the heck out of the house:-)

Randy, you've done good work, and it was nice to follow it. I'm truly sorry for the hard time I gave you occasionally. I never should have done that.

Your shed is closed but you'll still be on BF, though, right?

It's been a good run! Your My Ten Speeds site was an inspiration when I decided to bring my old bikes back to life. You've done a lot of good work saving bikes from landfills and finding good homes for them. Best of luck with your future plans.

I really appreciate all the info you've posted on your site, and over here. Your impressions of the bikes that came your way were consistent with mine in the rare cases we got to ride the same models. Enjoy your fall and stay warm over the winter.

Hope you can embrace the changes life brings to you.
I enjoy your website and your name came to mind as I ponder my next project, a 1976 Supercycle Excalibur (Bridgestone alloy), a bike that perhaps only another Canadian might understand rebuilding!
I will be posting progress on BF soon.

Regards, George

I'm glad to be the latest recipient of a couple of obscure bikes that passed through the old shed, and I wish you well for your next sojourn, wherever that may be. If in NW Ontario, perhaps we may cross paths yet.

It's been great reading about exploits centred around the old shed; I've profited from info/advice you've posted here on BF and on your site.

I particularly appreciate your obvious love of great Canadian bikes (the Marinoni 'Québec' and your blue Cyclops come immediately to mind).

All the best in the directions you choose to pursue!

Randy, when I first decided to rebuild my old ten speed from when I was a teenager, I started with a google search and your site came up. The addiction was born while reading the pages and here I am about 9 bikes and 90 pounds lost later. All I can say is "Thank You"

Sad to see the old shed close it's doors Randy. I've been the recipient of more than a few of it's contents, including one that I know you were hesitant to sell so thank you for passing it along. It's a summer of big changes for both of us so I hope yours work out well for you and your family.
All the best for your future endeavours

Your shed is closed but you'll still be on BF, though, right?
I never saw you comments or stated opinions as a "hard time" noglider. Actually, you strike me as a courteous guy who politely and thoughtfully expresses his opinion and does so, as often as not, in an entertaining fashion. Course, I could be wrong:-)

Who's gonna take over at the landfill?
Three or four Bicycles for Humanity volunteers are sharing the collection and maintenance duties. I TRULY miss going to the dump but I still have a Charles Roberts to build, and a CCM club racer to get going, and a Waterford to get to know better. To that, add this...

I am a planner. It has always, or for a long time anyway, been my plan to build MY "TEN SPEEDS" in preparation for today, a time when I can't have as many bikes, and a time when I honestly want to ride more than I want to find and build. With this in mind, I can publish twelve feature bicycles articles each year for the next ten years and not run out of material to keep publishing (I have lots of photo sets prepared to do just that). And, I can always add a how to or, more importantly, how not to, feature article now and then.

As for those of you who thank me for helping you get involved - I do hope I was helpful and saved you a bit of time, energy and cash.

Well, the guys at the Bicycles for Humanity workshop did give me a thong that read "bicycle" on the front and "guru" on the back. Or visa versa (not sure which way I am supposed to wear it):-(

You live in one of the most beautiful areas in the entire world.
Living in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, allows me to experience The Great Canadian Shield on a daily basis. Believe it or not, there is an amethyst mine less than two miles from my cottage and, many years ago, we used to be able to find that semi prescious stone here and there, with little effort.

This is my front yard and...

yes, I found and drug every one of those rocks home to make those gardens.

I don't like to take pictures, or experience, or even think about WINTER!-(
