So, I'm zipping along my favorite bike path, aka the Dirty River Way, and we cross paths. I'm on my work horse, a 1977 Schwinn Le Tour Deuce, which has all sorts of things to not like... which one of these would be the first thing to make your nose turn up? 1) It's hi-ten tubing. 2) The lack of toe clips. 3) The non period correct Walmart brand water bottle cages. 4) The original Wylde plastic tape is still there. 5) I'm wearing lycra shorts. 6) In spite of all things, I'm clipping along pretty good and look like I'm having fun doing it.

Anything "Walmart" on a vintage bike is a serious problem.
I should tell you, that one of my life's goals is to never step foot in a "Walmart" store. So far, so good...

It would all depend on your speed. If you were faster than me I would probably hate everything about you, regardless of what you were wearing or riding. I'm simple that way.

I would not cotton to being on the receiving end of a snot rocket. Nor would riding my wheel without an introduction be acceptable.
Other than that, its all good.

Walmart bottle cages-if it says "Walmart" on them. I'm in Portland and see all combinations. If you're having a good time then ride on!

I got a flat riding my Brompton folding bike last Sunday. While I was stopped to fix it on the side of the bike trail, about four or five cyclists passed me. Every single one of them asked if I had everything I needed or if I needed any help.

I'd be more perturbed if you were wearing earphones and texting or talking on the phone, going the wrong way in the bike lane!

Only thing I hate is when another rider doesn't acknowledge my greeting.Atleast give a nod. As long as your out on a bike, I could care less what your riding.

op, it's only the lack of toe clips. that's ridiculous.
i applaud you.
now try doing that while living in a place like ponca city, okla ... pre-internet!
saw a rider the other day, not merely wearing earbuds, but large earphones. that's almost as bad as not using toe clips.
jk

There are a lot of things that annoy me about living in Queens NY, but the fact that Walmarts are not allowed to open up here, is not one of them.

Is this a game where we're supposed to list our own most irritating attributes?

It's not a contest or game, just a conversation starter really. These are just a small collection of irritants that I noticed displayed by and between some folks who ride bicycles (C&V and non-C&V people). Some gleaned from the forum, some from true personal experience. I'm asked about my bike(s) sometimes, or where I ride, how often, how far, etc. Non riders seem to be more accepting of my ways; non-C&Ver's seemed to give off a "not a real bike/not a real rider" vibe at times. But, I don't think it's a real big issue, probably more my own personal social angst trending through. I was just curious if there was one that would rise to the top as a "top irritant". Everyone here is pretty cool though....... accept lay off the sandles and sox, they were my mothers.

Apart from the lycra, I see nothing amiss, here.
Oh, I suppose if you were faster than me, that might irritate me. But that hasn't happened yet, so I'm unsure.
Ride on, Mon Oncle.

As a C&Ver, I find that the carbon guys sometimes seem to bear down and pass me going as fast as they possibly can, I'm guessing to express their belief that steel does not constitute a real bike. Or maybe I'm just slow.
But that translucent plastic bar tape has to go. It brings back visions of Varsities and other heavy steelies lined up, never ridden, in front of dorms.
