My Souvenir From France - Peugeot PSN-10

After moving to France a year ago, I decided that it's time to get a bike to go to and from work and also for running about at night and maybe some longer road rides on the weekend.

I picked up this bike for a steal right near home.

Anyway here are the photos and I will let you judge the find for yourselves.

Would someone like to tell me the specs?

What should I keep, change or replace?

Any comments or oppinions appreciated

This brings back a few memories from working in a shop that sold a lot of Peugeots. I always thought that this was an underappreciated bike. It was very light weight for a steel frame. It also had a pretty solid parts group (although those wheels don't look to be original) and rode great. I like the saddle a lot, the wheels have great rims, and that is, I believe, one of the roller bearing stronglight headsets which were practically indestructible as well as very light weight. This is a fine bike and it looks like you picked it up at a very attractive price (you didn't actually steal it, right ?)

Per the graphics on the head tube, that looks to be a 1985 model.
Interesting is, your bike has a full French Simplex/Stronglight mid range component group on it, while PSN's, at least the ones sold in the US, had a Camapgnolo Triomphe Gruppo installed on them. Sometimes the same model bike sold in different markets can be set up differently byt the manufacturer in such ways, although I thought the "N" in the model designation on Peugeots, usually mean Campagnolo components are used on it. There is still the possiblity that someone did a component switcheroo of components on the bike, sometime in its life.
The Stronglight/Simplex group does not have as much "cachet", as a Campagnolo Gruppo for most C&Vers, so the values of the bikes with such, might not be as much as the ones with the Campy gruppo on them, but at least the French group's drivetrain will most likely, generally perform better than it's contemporary equivalent from Campagnolo.
The Stronglight A9 headset seems to be the version that had the Delrin cups on it. I never really heard of big problems with the Delrin cups (that made the headset even lighter than the one with aluminum cups), but you do have to be a bit more careful with them as I have seen them dried out and cracked on some bikes, but those seemed to have been on bikes that were left outdoors most of their lives, so the UV exposure on the cups caused them to dry out and sometimes crack at the edges. I've also heard of a very few cases of people having problems keeping them tight, but I think that was not really a common problem with these headset. Otherwise, there, no other thing that you will have to pay special attention to on that bike.
Make sure you check theqexpendables on the bike (tires, brake pads, cables, pedal straps....etc.) on the bike and replace those if they are dried up or worn out before you take the bike on the roads...
Congratulations on the very nice Peugeot find and have lots of miles and fun on it!

Ooh, nice.

I recommend not changing anything until you've ridden it a fair bit. You'll know what, if anything, you want to change.

Nice find. I think I'd change the bar tape and bottle cage, and that's about all. OK, maybe tires too.

I picked up this PSN10 a couple of years ago. Very nice bicycle and, had it been the same color as the OP's, I might still have it today...

Thanks for all of the comments!

Yes I am not a fan of the bottle cage, it has to go. Any recommendations for a replacement?

I picked up some white PRO handlebar tape which i will put on, but the brake hoods are pretty cracked and worn out. Anyone know where I can find ones like these?

The tyres will need replacing, they are pretty cracked.

haha, Bikemig, I didn't steal it, but at 30 euros I wasn't far off.

Hi, Pretzel-

Go with a steel TA cage. They are robust unlike the alloy ones that look like what's on the bike after a couple of rides with a full bottle. Modolo anatomic hoods are getting rare and pricey but I believe the lever shape is identical to Campy so generics should fit. You've got a lovely bike with great potential. Have fun with it!
