Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard Tires....how do you like them?
I've aquired a vintage Fuji in excellent condition, and will be using it as a commuter sometimes. Tires need replacing, so after research decided on the Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard tires in 27 inch size. I understand these are tough tires with good puncture resistance. I know they won't be as supple or as fast as some of the other brands...but I"m not in a race to get to work. Does anyone out there use these particular tires, and how do you like them? My commute is on city roads and some paved path. Thanks!

In addation to the replies and discussion do a google search "site:bikeforums.net Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard" for historical info that might not show up in this thread. (Leave out the dbl quotes. Also I don't mean to dissuade you or anyone from posting threads, just trying to add a dimension to the discussion when I don't actually have anything usefull to say.

LOL. I did do a search on bikeforums prior to posting. Mostly what was discussed were the Marathon Plus tires tho. Actually, I do find alot of pretty fascinating topics and discussions by searching topics out on the older threads. But yeah, was curious if folks liked these or no.

I have quite a few miles on a set of 26" x 1.5" Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard tires, probably a few thousand. I really like them. I have only had two flats, and that was from a nail and a screw. I'm pretty sure any bike tire would have been punctured by those objects. They seem fast enough for a commuter tire. Also, after several thousand miles they do look a bit used, but they are far from worn out. I recommend them.

Schwalbe Marathon + tires are hands down the best but I don't know if they make them in 27 x 1 1/4.
I have the 26 x 1.95 and have never had a flat.
I use 27 x 1 1/4 Continental Gator hardshells on my PX-10 and have had no flats.
I don't find the rolling resistance on the SM+ tires bad at all, in fact quite good, so I have never understood this opinion.

I roll on 700x32c Marathons on my commuter, about 1000 miles so far. Haven't had a single puncture, and have gone over some glass and such on numerous occasions. They grip very well in the rain as well. Only "complaint" I have is that the reflective strips aren't exactly concentric, and make it look like the bead is poorly seated when in reality it's correct. Not really an issue for me, though.

that Schwalbe stuff works. Yes, the tires aren't that fast, but who cares when you have to get to work. Riding over a smashed beer bottle with no flats is worth the price!

Cool, I thought they would make great tires for this old Fuji. They do make em in 27 1/4 inch size, I"m getting mine from Western Bikeworks, Biketiresdirect also sells them. Hope they aren't as tough to mount as I hear Marathon Plus's are...but a work out's worth it for good flat protection for sure.

I have them on my Fuji Royale II...700x32 on the front, 27"x32 on the rear (will be updating to a 700x23 on the rear to match the front when the hub I want actually becomes available for purchase)
