Brought home new toy...Ciocc Designer 84 Microf c.40

Very excited to have brought this home today. Original owner, original components with some upgrades. Seller didn't budge on the price but I walked away happy. Just need to get some wider handlebars, put on the Brooks I just got and she's set to ride. Sorry some of the photos are a little blurry.

What headset is that? I know I've seen one like before but don't know who makes it.

Very, very nice bike - it is one of those brands you almost never see but always like when you do see one.
And don't we love chrome front and rear? yes we do.

I have some Campy handlebars in perfect condition from mid- 80's in a 44cm that need to be traded for 38 or 40.
PM me if interested.

By "upgrades" I'm assuming you mean the internal brake cable routing and then repaint? It does look to be wearing newer paint and has the extra Ciocc decal on the top tube. The Designer decal should also be on the driveside of the top tube.

However, the repaint was done exceptionally well and the components are top notch - I wouldn't have budged had I been the seller, either. That's a beautiful bike in a really cool color, the parts are top-shelf and in super shape. What's not to love?

Congratulations on a fine purchase.

Nice! Looks to be one of the later ones judging by the Cinelli BB shell, internal cable routing, brake bridge and seat cluster. I'm running a Delta on my '84 as well.

Yup. The seller said he bought it in 87, so that makes sense. Drillium Dude above suspects it might have been repainted. I have no idea. I have seen a couple other examples of the same color.

I think I should amend my statement about the repaint/metalwork. I couldn't tell for sure about the seatstay attachment, but I do note that the rear brake bridge is a later design. It could very well be original, and if so - well, wow! - the PO really took magnificent care of her (or hardly rode at all)

I'm trying to figure it out myself. I know for sure that I've seen a couple of these light blue ones out there. I have no idea on the logo orientation.

I have been looking for pics of my former Ciocc.

Sounds sad, but I have owned so many bikes that I can't exactly remember all of the frame details.

My best recollection though points this to be all original.

It's definitely a cool bike and as Sloar mentioned, they handle quite well.

very close to one i own; same internal TT brake cable routing, same headlugs, same Cinelli 'spoiler" BB shell with same panto, same brake bridge (also Cinelli), same rear cluster and 2 WB bosses...but mine is SL, not SLX and nothing like that "homage to Bianchi Celeste" color, was dark red, now darker metallic red (respray by Ed Litton).
It's a great bike, enjoy the snot outta it!

EDIT: True that generally the "Designer '84 or '80" decal was usually on the driveside TT, but not 100%, and usually there'd be a Giovanni Pellizoli signature decal at the rear of the TT, also on the driveside...but some of the TSD frames did not have the signature. Any TSD pantos on your brake bridge or elsewhere?

I have a Merckx with that headset. Do you think it was original or an add on? Do you know where I could find another one? Where they made to allow a shorter quill stem. It seems to ack as an exstension to the head tube

it was definitely an add-on for my Ciocc, which I got as a bare frame. I had a Delta in the parts bin, so it ended up on the Ciocc. Excellent headsets IMHO. This one dates to the mid 80's and it still smooth with the original bearings.
