Beautiful color. Love the scheme with the gray. Not too many first-year 760's running around. Nice bike!

Totally agree with CB400Bill, and OldsCool, on that colourway for your Trek, very classy look IMHO.
I wish manufacturers would return to these types of paint schemes, and get away from murdered out flat black, or the rolling billboards, that get passed off on folks now. But I would also like to have world peace and an end to inequality, I think I won't see any of them in my lifetime.
Nice looking Trek

Man, that's a beauty. How do you do on 13-21 gearing in Oregon?
My nearly-stock 1983 Trek 760, the daily driver. All stock except for the wheels, hubs (though I do have my eye on some Campy Nuovo Tipo hubs, which were stock), cassette (I also have a Suntour New Winner 13-21 to replace what’s on there), and pedals (but the Suntour Sprint track pedals are close). I have the original Avocet Racing I seat, but use my Brooks B17. It even has the original Jim Blackburn bottle cage. Serial #053654. Yeah, she’s dirty (don’t judge! )
I hope to bring her back to (mostly) stock, and give her a new paint job in the same blue/gray. I love the ride on this bike, probably my favorite ever, so far. I also love Suntour Superbe derailleurs and brakes, which I think have been rightly called “the poor man’s Campy.” Butter-smooth and quiet, in my experience.

I recently rode the North Shore Century on my '85 760. (Sorry, no photos.) I thought the gearing might give me a little trouble on the tiny, southern WI hills, but it was just fine. Maybe because that bike accelerates so well, I had less trouble getting up those little hills than in years past. It's a better bike than I'm a rider, that's for sure.

As I saw that bike, I was thinking 'that blue is ELECTRIC!'

Serial # on separate plate?
Does anyone know why the serial # on my 1983 Trek 760 appears to be on a small, separate metal plate? JohnDThompson?

It's 42F and I get a spontaneous moment to take the 760 Pro Series out for what may be the last spin of the season. Having not been on it for a few months gave me a fresh, objective assessment of the Mavic tubular wheelset that I had spiffed, tuned and installed this past summer. More than this, it was the frame and geometry that put a smile on my face. The light 20lb weight really makes it zip. The full 531c is very smooth without sacrifice of the agile handling. If this 760 wasnt in such fantastic condition it could steal the road warrior daily rider status from the Cannondale Criterium. Very, very nice and classic bikes.

This is just another post saying how much I appreciate my 760. With the nice weather lately, I've been grabbing it for longer rides. I swear, I get a big grin on my face every time I ride that thing. My 760 has a combination of quickness and comfort that I haven't quite found in any other bike.
I got an '82 Trek 950 frame last year. I finally got it built up this Spring and have been riding it a lot lately too. It's a beautiful bike and is a lot of fun to ride, but not quite as racy as the 760. It's probably a couple pounds heavier than the 760 and the geometry is more stretched out, as was typical of the time. I'm going to enjoy comparing these two the rest of the year.
Is the 760 anybody else's favorite bike right now?

Just took my 760 downtown to the waterfront and am amazed at the total ride experience. The bike weighs 20lbs on sewups so you can just about imagine the zip when you kick it. The sound of the Campy NR shifting with the anti-Shimano "chuck" brings to mind classic racing. This summer I'll get it on the road for some time trial runs. Super classy.

I have a 950 (957) and a 760 and find the 957 is a great bike to stay in the drops for the fast distance rides, whereas the 760 seems a little more versatile. The 760 has a riding on top of things with easy speed quality and the 957 demands more constant effort to stay on top of its game. Both are decent climbers. The 957 is better in a breeze since it is longer. I won't be selling either of them.

Thanks for the inspiration to pull mine out in the near future!
Looked on VeloCals and found the decal set. Since mine has been rattle canned, I may need to repaint, especially with a replacement fork.
WRT high pressure, I have some Vredestein Forteza tires from several years ago. They are the blue striped ones that you've seen on my old Le Champion.
I have been riding them on my 25# Langster with 125/120 psi r/f. Best times on my commute in three years. And they are very compliant. Can't tell the difference from running 110/105 on the Pinarello. Oh and they are 23mm
