Stripped my 760 today for an OA bath (at least for the top tube), and annual touch up. It wound up being ridden on a number of rain soaked days last year, as well as on many dusty rail trails. The seat side of the top tube was getting rusty from the brake line movements. It needed a little spa time. I'm going to see if the budget will allow for a professional respray (if not this year then next year). I'm also thinking of going 5800 with it, but not so sure on that either. It's been "modernized" for awhile, so might as well keep it fully modern.

Nice frame, by the way. Looks well-preserved.

For the DD, I've ridden it on the 760 three times now. One other time I rode on an aluminum/carbon combo frame. The 760 works great on the DD, as the steel frame and country roads mix very well. I've had it geared three different ways for the ride (I like to mix it up).
-In the first year with the trek I had it with a sugino 48/34 up front and a 13-27 on the rear (8 speed shimergo setup).
-The next year I did the (no longer existing) Wisconsin Triple Crown on the 760 with a triple that was converted to a double. That was a 46/60 with a 12-28 (also 8 speed shimergo but with rival shifters up front instead of campy shifters) setup. That one was probably the best set up for climbing, and I needed it on the Arcadia Brute and Kickapoo Kicker. The added benefit of that gearing was the ability to stay on the "big" ring for all but the steep climbs. A little wide on the ratios between gears, but just the ticket for the big climb rides.
-This year I rode the DD with a 50/39 and 12-30 10 speed SRAM combo. The combo from the prior year was moved over to my cross bike (and the Arcadia Brute and Kickapoo Kicker did not happen this year), so I needed to come up with something good enough for the DD's climbs. That worked great except for just one or two hills on the way to Mineral Point on the 150k route (still climbed them, but a little more grind than spin). It must work, since at two stops the mechanics told me I was the first steel bike though, and they were expecting something modern instead.
So, lots of ways to skin a cat. The 760 frame is my first love. I'm considering putting a Chorus group on it, or the new 105. It splits time about 50/50 with my new custom. A picture of this year's setup on Bascom Hill in Madison.

'Tis the season for projects. My 760 hangs quietly on the wall. Waxed it yesterday, still need to swap the 13-26 and remove the dork disc. Otherwise, awaiting the possibility of a January spin around town if the temps stay up.

It is taking a morning OA bath as I write this.

@oldsCOOOL - Its not coming. I have stripped all parts off and have removed the crown race from the Giant fork. It was really stuck on there but I managed to get it off without more damage than was on there originally.
Someone used a tool that removed the chrome on the bottom side in two places. I purchased one of those bearing like pullers to remove it but the fork was damaged in the process. Since I don't value it much, it is not a loss. The other discovery was that the key on the washer between the upper race and the lock nut was filed off. I can get around that but.....
My focus right now is to build up a Masi Gran Corsa using the head set from the Trek. I think the 760 will be a summer project. My thinking is to build it with Superbe parts after it is cleaned up. It may need to be repainted. It is in sad shape in that department.

I have to agree. Heard from my pal, and after putting around 1700 miles on it, he found a NOS set of original equipment Super Champion tubulars, and has since broken it down and sent it for a repaint and new decals. As is often the case, paint was way rougher than it appeared in the photo. He's a former racer (and I'm most definitely not), and it has found a good home with him. I think he hopes to ride it in BSG next year. He's got the horses to hammer that 42/52 here in the mountains.

Here's my '85 760.
Its original Campy Victory components were long gone when I found it so I decided to build it up with more modern parts I had on hand. It's my sunny day go-fast bike for rides with the carbon fiber racer boys and girls.

The wheels are... (fanfare, please) Forte Titans, Performance's house brand. I bought them on sale a few years ago and they're actually not as bad as I expected. Be that as it may, since that picture was taken I've replaced them with a set of wheels I built with Velocity A23 rims laced to older Dura Ace hubs. Much better.
Using my highly precise bathroom scale, the current build weighs about 21 lbs.

THAT would be great! Don't know exactly which way to turn to find one. I was thinking a nice carbon would be acceptable.
Went to T-town this fall and purchased a pair of Superbe brake calipers. Found a second pair in my parts bin today! Looks like I have two complete Superbe brake sets, so one will go on the 760. Except for a post, HS and stem, I have what I need for the 760 build. Maybe I should do it with the crappy rattle can paint job it came with!

Anyone found a good touch up paint match for the red T760's as show on this page? I have something close, but thinking not close enough. Even a matching nail polish color for top coat would be appreciated.

A hobby shop with a good selection of Testors hobby paint might help or the the old nail polish trick. Being a darker red you should find a good match. My 760 isnt that dark.

Out with the dork disk (what were they thinking) and on with the Suntour 14-28 6sp freewheel. I removed the Shimano sis 13-26 6sp and swapped on to the trainer bike.
Also, swapped on a race oriented saddle in place of the padded and heavier L. Turbo ("Lady" Turbo). Oh and one more....a fresh set of Michelin Krylion 23's (also lighter). Now I can get this out on the open road this summer instead of a friday night townie.
I still get the feeling this was originally used as a lady team bike.

@OldsCOOL - Not much of an update on the 760. Fork wise I have looked around and came up with a Soma track fork that is threaded and chrome with the same offset as the original fork. Cost is more than what I paid for the bike, $127. Still a good price for a Tange fork.
So the Trek site states the 760 was equipped with Superbe parts. Were they Pro or not? I suspect not.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, I might survive the garage temps to start looking at this frame after .... well I need to finish the Masi and then prep for the NJ ride in April. Reading this thread again helps me appreciate what I have and is motivational!

First they came with Superbe, as "Pro" components became available, those were used. The very first runs only had Superbe Pro pedals; later runs also had Pro cranks, brakes, etc.

Went for a first spring ride with my 7yr old grandson, he with his BMX bombing puddles and me with the 760 doing my best to stay dry. The Krylions and a 14-28 FW give it an improvement in quickness and a familiar feel, so much like the 460 I have missed so much. The Campy NR is shifting smoothly with the 28t and feels very quick. It's going to be a great season.

@JohnDThompson or others. My 760 is stored in a storage unit several miles from home. I am in the process of building a Pinarello for my daughter and as I was digging through the bins, a Superbe BB-100 (1.37x24) revealed itself but won't fit the Pin. Will it fit the 760 or did it come with the BB-SB10-I (36x24)? According to Velobase, the only Superbe BB in Italian threading is the BB-SB10-I.

I know 170s are rare, but I am surprised no one on this forum has one.
