My winter project will be finished as soon as my wheels come in from PBK. I knew the shipping would be slow, but its almost been 30 days since I ordered them.
And don't comment on my cluttered work space, its been cleaned since the pic.

I spent part of the snowy afternoon almost finishing up the Fuji. Then I ran into an issue I've never seen before but could (should) have anticipated. The person for whom this bike is intended lives in very hilly country so I had installed a triple. At the moment my FW collection is depleted of any moderate sizes. A 14-32T FW paired with a 52-42-30 crank requires more chain take-up than a VGT-Luxe can handle.

The arrival of the Gazelle frame has also made me re-think some of the component usage I had intended. Sometimes seemingly simple projects take bleeping forever.

I posted earlier about my 91 Rockhopper build, which is still in process, but now that I got some new bits for it, I'm sure it will take me even longer (midge bars, quill stem, deore FD/RD). And adding to that project I'd like to get on the road ASAP, I'm rebuilding my 93 Marin Bear Valley. This means sourcing a 7sp wheelset, cables and yellow cable housing, pedals, seat and seatpost.

I will check tomorrow, I can't remember if I kept them, but I had the original yellow cables from my Marin Bear Valley. I will get back to you tomorrow.

I'm not promising anything, but I did a drop bar conversion on my Marin. They were in great shape so I might've put them up.

Motobecane Grand Record

I just finished my Jacques Anquetil build, but could not resist buying this scruffy Moto GR frame. It's an icon and I usually go towards the periphery; so a change. It was either this or a PX 10 (all about those nervex lugs). I like the race history of Peugeot, but the red black combo called to me.

It hasn't arrived yet. Here are some seller pics. I probably will be stripping a couple of other bikes to build the GR up.

The foot and a half of snow outside wouldn't stifle my enthusiasm for this project!

Used to do some painting on old hot rods etc it came out OK,.... but its going to be a rider,...period. When the paint gets bad of its own accord then I'll just do it all over again... (a bit better this time!).
I decided on running 99% Campy period items and the Dia Compe Gran Compes that came with it,... (I drilled them out...why not!)

Wow, painted it yourself! It looks great! I thought you had a campy NR crank, but it's tough to tell the rest with a non-drive side image.

I pretty much have to go with record with my build per the model name.

Excelent project ! these MOTOBECANE black and red, are fabulous and very rare in France ...three years to find this one and it is not a "grand record" but a 1980 CT2 (CT as Cyclo tourisme)!...

JJS welcome to the light side. Or the dark side, whatever.

Very nice!

I'm rebuilding my Waterford RS-11 this winter. I had a hairline crack at the BB and seat tube connection, sent it in for warranty repair in yellow, and it came back this icey light blue. They call it Big Band Blue. These guys are so awesome to work with! Anyway, I love this bike, and I'm changing it up this year. It use to sport a 9 speed ultegra and dura ace mix, but I just ordered Ultegra 6800 for it I'll start a new thread for it as I get more pictures and start putting it together.

1. Trek 1400 ZX - changedd from bar ends to 105 DT shifters, changed to Nitto bars and stem, changed to 105 brake levers.
2. MTB drop bar conversion: changed a Specialized Rockhopper into a Specialized TourHopper (the bars and the Brooks sealed the TourHopper deal)
3. took $300 and turned a $10 Raleigh frame into a $50 single speed (did the powder coating myself)
4. still working on turning this $25 CL Nishiki frame and fork into a dirt road / light weight touring bike (another one of my powder coating victims...) - i just stuck a $100 saddle on it, and still need $70 long reach brakes....

Just finished the 1978 Fuji S10-S. Was lucky enough to find one that had been sitting inside forever so the paint and chrome is amazing. Stripped it down to the frame, polished the paint and chrome, chemical dipped the components so they look brand new, and redid the bearings, etc. Totally went through it and it is amazing. I love how this bike looks, would keep it if it were my size.

This Soma Saga was my winter project, and it's all done. It's not C&V, but I sold a semi-classic frame (Gunnar Crosshairs) to help fund it. I'll use the Soma for commuting, touring and MUT riding. The geometry and size fits me perfect, and I can tell that it will handle loads much better than my other touring bike, a Bob Jackson. The Saga is classic design in certain respects, such as the flat fork crown, but modern in its oversized tubing, threadless headset and compact geometry.

In the parking lot today...

...I worked on my "go to" bike today at lunchtime. It's pretty much the only time I have right now to tinker on bikes, two little kids and too much travel. Anyway, any time I get to wrench, it's like calm mood washes over me.

I had just enough time to switch over crank sets from a Bontrager (Truvativ made) triple to a Specialized (Sugino made) triple and take a few pics. The Bontrager had a cracked non-drive side crank arm and the Specialized showed up on CL last week cheap and in decent used shape. I have a couple other things I want to do to this this winter (thumbshifters, cork grips, cork plugs) but it was a start.

I wish this bike looked good in pictures but I never think it does.

I started restoring this late 80's Greg LeMond edition Elite i had as a teenager. Found it in my dads storage unit after 24 years. Figured I would bring it back to life. Just have to hook up the brakes and its ready to go. Completely rebuilt from the ground up!
