Styling.
I just don't have a bike that they would go with.
But I do own a pair of C Record high flange and old 3pc. Campagnolo Gran Sport hubs also in high flange, which are of the similar theme.

Gorgeous.
I've only seen them on pics of Gunnar's Kvale, but I could see using them on a special build.
I have a build in mind for myself and I betcha' Curt Goodrich would be the builder to pull it off for me.

I wonder how they would go with my new Tomii?
I'm going to run a generator up front so probably not a good match. I like them.

I have several custom builders that buy my rear hubs to match up with SON generators up front.

I have met Curtis in Denver @ the hand made show. He was kind enough to let me play with all of the stuff he brought, as well as answer my silly questions about hubs and other stuff. The guy is really sharp, as well as someone with the patients of Job. I don't have a bike that his hubs would look right on,YET. But when I do, Curtis will get a call for his hubs.

Dale Brown had a pair at the last Cirque in Leesburg, Va.
These were wondrous pieces of art. The close focus images can leave you thinking of Popeye proportions, but in the hand they feel simply perfect.
These are not for your daily commuter, for sure.
Thanks for the image-introduction. I've also heard nothing but nice stories.
Cheers!

Curits, I've been following your work on flickr for a long time... great stuff! Very impressive. I particularly like the coffee pour-overs you made.

Another fan right here. I have no experience riding them, but my heart skips a beat and I swoon a little each time I see a pair of Curtis Odom hubs. I've held a couple in my hands and they are every bit as beautiful in person, and as smooth as imaginable.

It's nice to know that someone still makes good-looking hubs these days.
I've long wondered if somehow, someone could make a near-exact copy of a Nuovo Record large-flange rear hubshell that could accept a modern freehub body. Alas, this hasn't yet happened. I pondered having this cut from billet steel, as a way around the otherwise-necessary need for a difficult aluminum forging.
The delicate look of Curtis' hubshells suggests to me that a particularly high-strength alloy is used, since more-generic renderings of various old-style hi-flange hubshells on the market are typically chunky-looking by comparison to the original forged ones.
So, it again has me wondering, how light could a steel rendering of a NR hi-flange free-hub-shell be?

After that I think of sturdy. Not delicate, and they are not for weight weenies! It's really good stuff.

Hey Curtis!
Welcome to the C&V forum. It is similar yet slightly different from the CR group. Many there are here.
I think there are more active tinkerers here, tho.
But a remarkably friends, helpful and resourceful crowd.
