Bike ride bucket list

The guys in the 41 actually came up with a good thread. Unfortunately, they didn't do much in terms of pictures.

So where do you want to ride before your jig is up?

My choices ...

Maratona dles Dolomites

L'Eroica

Stelvio

Giro di Lombardia course that includes the Madonna del Ghisallo climb

My rail rides are the Paris - Roubaix route and the Ride across Iowa.

Realistically I would love to do a brevette(?) brevet or two.

If I ever get to move out to Las Vegas a ride through Red Rock Canyon is on the list.

18 years ago, I was all geared up to ride the Pacific coast trail, BC to somewhere in SoCal, when I met my wife to be. Still want to do it.

A triple crown on a bike would be nice. If I'm going to hell, I might as well prepare - Oregon Outback:

I'd love to ride with you and your son in L'Eroica too. On some Dugast 34s perhaps?

My wife has Provence on her bucket list, I told her earlier this year (turned forty last month) that l'Eroica is on mine. They're both on the continent, why not kill two birds with one stone?

I'm about to do one of mine, beginning Christmas Day: Tulum to Punta Allen. We're still discussing day two, but Felipe Carillo Puerto would be a nice option. Still deciding whether to take a cyclocross type bike, with 38 mm tires or a mtn. bike, with 2" tires and upright position. Leaning toward the drop bars.

I'd be up for a trans-US ride in the next year or so. I wonder...

While pretty short in distance, I've always wanted to do this:

Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paris-Brest-Paris is in the tentative plans for next year.

l'Eroica is on the list, too.

RAGBRAI isn't all that tough. I've done 6 of them so far and if any of you want to try it and meet up next year, give me a holler.

Bavarian/Austrian/Czeck Republic bike tour- Two summers from now we are doing a tour we did 25 years ago from Munich to Salzburg to Vienna to Prague to Berlin. From Berlin we will make our way back to the Chiemsee/Berchtesgaden region where my wife's family lives. This will be more interesting as it will be a multi-generational trip with many teens and young adults along for the adventure.

Lake Superior lighthouse trip- This summer we are doing a two-three week ride around Lake Superior and the Upper Peninsula area. Some of it will include the use of ferries of course.

Awesome, Grady. Quite a trip from Berlin to the Chiemsee, and so many great locations to see on the way. I do see some riding in Austria too in my next summer, better get the legs ready.

Yes, I feel so fortunate to have family in the Voralpen gebiet.

Some of the best bike riding anywhere and it's just out the front door. As the boys get older, my wife and I are committing more time to travel in this region to make sure our kids make the important family connections with their Bavarian, Austrian, Swiss and Italian cousins. Hopefully we will be able to reciprocate and have the family enjoy some visits in Minnesota and the Midwest over the next few years as well.

A neighborhood ride that's gotten national attention. You ride a circuit of about 4.6 miles, and collect bonus points per lap, per deed, and per experience. For example, you get bonus points for carrying two buckets of dirt to a rooftop garden, shooting hoops for 5 minutes at a neighborhood youth center, seeing the sunset from a certain place (changes every year), sunrise from a certain bridge, having a beer at a bodega, getting a tattoo, a massage (not the happy ending kind), a haircut, helping an old lady, etc. You basically ride for 24 hours and embrace the folks who live there, and they embrace you. Bands play (some really bad ones). One or two people actually race it, but for the most part, it's an experience. Started by a school teacher who was tired of the bad press his neighborhood was getting, the experiences he had while cycling there, and decided to do something about it. It's changed the way cyclists are viewed in the area, and changed the way cyclists view the area, bridged a few gaps between people who would otherwise never probably speak to each other, much less participate in anything together.
