The list of highlights includes:

-1st frame up build (though most choices were easy/obvious)
-1st experience with Campagnolo
-1st experience with tubulars
-1st experience with Columbus tubing
-Dealing with some excellent folks with a similar sickness

Movin' on up and loving it.

Plenty of riding, too.

Not nearly as much riding this year as normal(not a single century) and a lot more mechanicking. I finally have enough spare parts to build a bike or three as the right frames become available. I just finished rebuilding the hi ten bike that brought me here four years ago, and am stunned by the quality of the ride. I was introduced to Miche and Sansin hubs and am a fan of both. And I built two dynamo front wheels this year, one 27" and one 700c. A good year in the shop.

I got to throw a vintage ride/swap/show shindig. Good practice for kicking it up a notch in 2016.

-my bikes and I moved across the country (again)
- i donated much of my bike crap while in California, including lots of stuff I was holding onto just because.
- Everything I have is a rider or a project that will be a rider.
- several Jack Taylor acquisitions.
- probably rode less this year than any of the past 6 years, unfortunately.
- much of my riding this year was MTB on the California coast. The past 6 months though have been nil.
- less is more

Hmmmm... In my 2014 C&V has:

Carried me through my first El Tour de Tucson;
Helped us make rent and/or groceries when things got tight;
Taught me that 21st century roadies don't necessarily scoff at and/or mock a nice old road bike;
Showed me exactly how crappy cheap bar tape can really be;
Given me reason to pray for the miraculous addition of a third chainring while climbing Gates Pass;
Provided countless hours of enjoyment with the whole family, or just the wife and I, or solo.

Been a great year, and I expect next year will be even better.

I'm in the best shape of my life,now at age 57. What I notice most as the summer progresses is my climbing ability improves.

When I ride one of my Paramounts, or my Mercian Vincitore, or my Bob Jackson, sometimes my face hurts from smiling so much. This year, as the summer progressed, I rode the Jackson more and more. I love that bike! It's one of those that just "fits" me. We all know that when we score a cool classic bike that we sometimes have to live with the fact that maybe it is a little too tall or too short, or we don't care that much for the group, or... Like anything old, when one puts themselves into the era of the machine itself, and ceases to compare it to contemporary machinery, the enjoyment can be found. It is not all about the weight, or the smoothness of the components, or even the quality of the ride as much as the feel of something old, well made, from a different time. Sometimes I just go to the man-cave and sit there and daydream.

2014 was a brutal Indiana Spring, very wet, windy, and cold clear into June, then incessant rain and wind almost all summer long, very short fall riding season as well, but still I managed to get 1000 miles this year. Really enjoying my bike club rides and my new friends.

Even though there are only a couple of us in the club riding vintage steel, it is enjoyable to go out there and ride with 15 or 20 of the carbon bike peeps and chat as we ride along at our 16 mph pace..
I'm routinely doing 35~45 mile rides with the club.

The Northwest Indiana prairie riding is pretty much all over until next spring, so I enjoy spending time in the man-cave working on the bikes. Scoring some goodies on ebay now and then, and checking in at the C&V

My Bob Jackson.

2014 - a really difficult year, personally. C&V Forum and the good natured kindness found here have helped tremendously in providing a welcome relief from the stresses and pressures this has caused. No longer having a career I've had a lot more time to appreciate and ride my C&V bikes. With the knowledge and insight learnt on the Forum I've so far managed to "make ends meet" financially to some extent by rescuing and selling derelict mountain bikes. Also realised a lot can be achieved for zero expenditure with patience and application, giving a sense of achievement. Moving into 2015 I now have a part-time cycling-related job, pay isn't brilliant but the people and job satisfaction are excellent. Lefthread's fantastic generosity in giving me his mystery track bike find and Elcraft's patience in storing it for me while I have saved the funds to ship it from the US to UK have given me something brilliant to look forward to when it finally arrives this side of the Atlantic, hopefully in the New Year. With my new contacts in the UK cycling field I'm excited at the prospect of the (new to me at age 58) riding in a velodrome for the first time when this bike is built. C&V members really are the best of people - so many good friends, most of whom I've never met. Wishing you all the very best Christmas/Honneker/Mid winter festival and health, wealth and happiness in the forthcoming year.

I learned that, as in most things that pique my interest, there are (fortunately) people crazier than me. This helps with matrimonial relationships more than you know.

2014 turned out to be an interesting year for me as far as cycling goes. I started the year determined to ride as much as possible but still work as much as I could (10-12hr days 6 a week) to fund my desired move. I had also intended to sell two bikes simply because they were not big in the ride rotation in the past.

Then the bottom fell out. I got sick and went to the hospital resulting in the government taking my job. Yes the government took my job, it was simply if your diagnosed with this you cannot drive for one year. No evaluation or appeal process just out the door and unemployed.

Thankfully in the aftermath my fabulous C+V machines were there both as a source of enjoyment and exercise to aid in my recovery (what little there was needed) and lose a little weight and improve my overall health.

I did end up selling the two bikes I entered the year intending to sell but also sold 3 frames, two other bikes and some parts. Some of the additional bike/frames were sold for the traditional reason, fit, ride quality, lack of use, but some were sold with a definite eye towards paying the bills. OH I also sold a nice old Winchester *****, that I bought used in Alaska years ago and was rumored to have been Sarah Palin's first hunting *****.

The end of the season highlight for 2014 was bringing the Trek 760 home that I had kept an eye on until finally the owner wanted to sell to me. That was a crazy day of head spinning joy and the last thing I expected on that weekend. I didnt have a clue what I had until later that day.

Each time I ride it there is a mystique that cannot be missed. With the near mint/excellent condition it wont be a main rider out on the fogline but then, next summer who knows. This is the nicest bike I have owned.

I realized how many cool unknown bikes there are out there, found some new things to look for on CL, and a ride is much more about how fast you go.

I rode my first 100 mile ride this year, and a few others after that. I rode the RAMROD in July, 167 miles and 10,000 feet of elevation gain in one day, my biggest and toughest ride to date. I did it, riding a 26 year old bike.

I built myself a bike out of a CAAD7 frame and a carbon fork with aluminum steerer tube. I rode it for the first time to rehearsal one evening, and it got stolen immediately. It was a great ride, and a hard lesson learned. Don't be hasty, and don't let the euphoria get your guard down.

I've moved my bikes back and forth between our city home and our country place. My Volpe lived upstate for a while, then I brought it down here. I loaned out my 1971 Raleigh Super Course for most of the year, and while it was gone, I realized I ought to sell it, so I asked for it back. Then I rode it and then felt it's too good to let go of. I do have to think about which one or two bikes to get rid of, as I think I have too many, and their purposes overlap greatly.

My Volpe is about 19 years old now, so in a year, it will qualify as vintage. Right? It is the most useful bike I own, and I look forward to riding it more than the others, most of the time, heavyweight and all.

My McLean is apart and getting a very slow upgrade of a 3x9 STI upgrade. I used it to commute this past summer. I discovered that a front rack is a nice place for panniers on a short-wheelbase bike.

I started painting my 1974 Raleigh International a couple of years ago, and I'm still not done. No pressure, though, because I already have too many bikes.

I finished the Viscount which I originally bought for my wife, but she didn't like it. At first, I set it up with a Sturmey-Archer S3X hub, 3-speed, fixed gear. I added a Sanyo dynamo front hub. The 3-speed hub was unnecessary, so I sold that to a BF member and it is now a single-speed fixed gear, with a 74" gear. It's a nice knock-about bike for around town.

I have a project in the works which I don't want to disclose fully, but it will be similar to the CAAD7 I lost.

My C&V/bike obsession makes sure I don't clutter the driveway with yet another sailboat.

I have quite a sweet tooth for those as well.

Since my last post here, I installed my first top normal fd, Suntour Spirt, and am very happy with it. And I successfully replaced the cables in a pair of gripshifters (not exactly c and v, I realize)
