You need to look around more Obviously
Simplex adds a De Multiplier* so the cable pull at the RD is different from the lever pulls ..
only applicable with that lever and the same Period Simplex RD
I have Old Campag friction Bar ends to a Campag Rally RD and that is unnecessary .
*Its like a backwards travel agent, Functionally ..

Though at the time they were not closely spaced Like the trend has been pushed, now (ie5~6/7 vitesses, not 10&11)

I think routing the cables under the bar tape looks better, and with modern cable housing I doubt friction would be a problem, but I don't like the way cables feel under my bar tape. And why I use non-aero brake levers. That's also one reason I've never liked using brifters of any kind.
