I bought a set of 2014 Chorus brakes in sealed box from Texas Cyclesport for under $100, delivered. Not C&V, but work so much better.

Mine does not have a RD hanger and the serial number is on the NDS rear dropout like yours. Unlike your bike I made a few changes with mine. I replaced the derailleurs because they were bad with a Suntour V-GT Luxe rear and 1st generation Cyclone front. I also replaced the DT shifters with nice Suntour shifters. I went from a 5 speed to 6 speed freewheel and swapped some mis-matched wheels with matching wheels. I had all the parts on hand. I have about $75 into it.
The crankset on my bike is different than the one on your bike. I used to own a Grand Sports that had the same as yours. Looking through the Raleigh catalogs it showed both crank types.

Thanks! Hey, does yours have an RD hanger? I'm a little unsure of the date on mine because in the catalog, a '73 only comes in blue on white and has an RD hanger, but mine is white on blue without one. On the other hand, the years it has a hanger and that color scheme, it doesn't have the Stronglight crank mine has. Also, the serial is on the dropout, which I understand was only done in '73. Confusing! Typical Raleigh!

Interesting, thanks! I actually haven't done anything to mine yet. I am thinking of putting the wheels and derailleurs aside for the time being and making it a sort of "clubman" style build with a 3-speed IGH. But right now it's sitting around until I have a little time.

Anyhow, after seeing piles of childrens bikes for $15 or less, I'm considering on going back and picking up a few more. Some are clean, scratch free and don't need anything. Plans are to gift them to the needy. There's lots of family's out there that can't spare a dime. To the kids eyes, that little used bike is BRAND NEW!

Well this is my latest “wreck” of the year picked up last month, you have to realize I’m now in Penang Malaysia & trying to find older bikes here in Malaysia or Singapore is nearly impossible & when you do find one allowing for the currency instead of being $25 its more like $250. Old bikes are really hard to find, the cost of buying & shipment, import makes things complicated.
My criteria on searching is a double butted frame & forged drop outs.
This fine example is just really what I like to tinker with, it gives me many hours of enjoyment stripping it to bare metal then a rebuild early next year. Unfortunately it has been completely hand painted so I’ve lost all the original decals, no I cannot find any markings underneath, obviously the handlebars, stand & lock are not original, & since been junked, it’s a British ISO size tube frame, & with a 25.4 mm seat post one would think it maybe a Raleigh (or was once) as these were very popular here in days gone by, I’ve looked inside the stem & cannot find any little trace of the 3 little rivet holes that holds the Raleigh badge on, but I know at some year they went to bonding type badge
My best guess its about 1990, funny configuration as its 128.mm rear spacing with 5 speed freewheel.
The frame number is F3E00010 stamped under the BB parallel with the frame, if anyone has any clues on this numbering I really would appreciate it.
Happy New Year to all those who read this

Good score! Not high end bikes but nice riders. I really like mine, I'm going to swap on a wider set of aluminum drop bars with new tape and aluminum pedals and then just ride it.

I did not have anything specific on my list this year. Wanted to finish some projects. Of course one is always looking.
I picked up an '85 Ironman in very good condition about six weeks ago, and a buddy dropped off a his and hers pair of low end Bridgestones (no idea the model-lugged frames, stem shifters) and presumed I was done for the year. Work has been all consuming (a good thing given the past 6-7 years) so my CL browsing has been limited.
Then, on the CR list, a 74 Masi popped up in my size. This morning. In a color I like. This morning. It's paid for and will ship soon. I am beyond excited. Photos to follow.

I have been stalking this for a couple of years.
I don't really need it or want it, but note the RD hangar and DT cable stops.
It can go both ways, geared or track.
Seller is a nice kid, and he's sold me a bike and a friend a bike, so I trust him.
I've seen the frame in person a couple of times, and just don't need it.
But, to finish out 2014, and to have a Primus Mootry frame, it may well be worth it.

I have been upgrading my '05 LeMond Etape and this was the final step, a Tourmalet frame, found at Frankenbike swapmeet.
My Etape is now a Tourmalet!

Hello everyone,
Happy New Year and best wishes for 2015!
Thrifty Bill, I always look forward to threads like this one, you have a knack for beginning enjoyable and informative threads! This last weekend's big find was a lugged Paganini cyclocross frame and fork (came with a Chris King 2Nut headset). The tubing is unknown as the prior owner began sanding down the frame, thankfully I do have the original color on the fork should I decide to match when it goes to the painter. The frame has some very nice lug wokrwith clean cut aways, plenty of pantographed "P" on the lugs as well as the fork crown, and Campagnolo drop outs front and back. The frame came with a Campagnolo seat post that is drilled for routing the rear brake cable. There is some info on the web about Paganini being a Dutch bicycle house brand with frames made in Italy but there is debate over who made the frames. Everything I've found thus far has been road or touring related, nothing yet for cyclocross bikes. Are there any Paganini owners out there that could help date this bike? Anyone have a catalog or catalog info to share? Please let me know, I'd like to nail down some details about the bike such as the original component group. This is something of a mystery bike, I hope to have my answers before the build is completed.

Just snuck this one in under the wire! Ironman Master? built with Shimano 600 components. Missing a few parts; needs tubes and tires, but it is cleaning up well. Happy New Year to all!
