Peugeot tube metal

Thanks to all who helped me date my "MIXTIE" frame peugeot.
I have a question about tube material.
The decal on the seat post upright reads:
Tube Special
Carbolite
103
By Peugeot
France
The serial # Y41' 24179 ( these are 2 seperate stampings on BB.)
From previous threads
Y=Renyolds 531SL
SL=A lighter version than venerable tube set
Total bike weight 30 lbs.
Carbolite 103 or Renyolds 531? Thanks

It wouldn't say Carbolite if it were Reynolds. Reynolds 531 would almost certainly weigh less than 30 pounds, and you also should see some residue from a sticker at the top of the front of the seat tube if it were. There's nothing wrong with it being Carbolite mind you, but it isn't Reynolds.

A "Y" in the model number designates Reynolds 531SL tubing. For instance, the model PY10 used Reynolds 531SL. A "Y" in the serial number has nothing to do with the tubing type. However, the serial number does tell us that the frame was manufactured in 1984. Carbolite was the hi-tensile steel developed to permit lugless, internal brazing and used in Peugeot's entry level models during the early 1980s.
