What's the most money you paid for a bike on CL or other classifieds? Keep or Sell?

Last month I paid $375 for an '82 Trek 950 (Campy SR equipped). That's the most I've paid and I guess it was a "decent" but not "great" deal. Beyond normal replacements (brake pads, cables, etc) I found I needed to replace one cracking rim and a rear axle.
I've done well selling. I took a bike-shop purchased used bike and sold it for $400, which is what I paid and I rode it for 3 years. In another case, I took a $500 brand new bike I purchased for my wife and resold it 2 years later for $400.
I had someone offer me $900 for my custom Surly LHT build that was ridden for two winters, but I decided to keep it.

Listed in the Trading Times, I paid $325 for a Rickert track bike. Came with Campy pedals with the teeth on the cages, 1/2 dozen Campy chainrings, and a spare set of wheels. That was in 1977.

Most I've paid was $300 for this Pinarello Cadore, here it is as bought, I haven't done anything with it yet as I love it but it's too small, I'm nudging my wife into riding and hoping she will like it as she progresses through bikes. I have just finished a Trek 7300 WSD for her but riding season looks a long way away today. Really hoping she wants this as she graduates bikes, it rides beautifully.
So really I'm saying this was a waste of money for me but my wife might use it.
I should sell but so want to keep

My biggest one time was $500 on a pair of Marin Vicenzas, one was too big, sold and paid for both, the other is at the moment in my want to keep pile, in need of a short height longer reach stem, it has a Technomic on it for the long leg/short torso woman who rode it before.

It seems that EVERYONE gets better deals than me. So... either everyone IS getting better deals than me, luck continuously shines on some people, or I overpay.

Just depends how good your network is in my opinion.
I am pretty tight with a couple of local shops and I hear about bikes being sold and people looking for special models constantly.
It has taken a long time to develop the relationships and trust.
Above that it takes a strategy to constantly search, which is something I have slowed way down on lately.
At the height of my "bike interest" I had 23 bikes here and I am well under half that number atm.
I have a nice mix around here and I honestly don't care how much I paid for a certain bike.
I like to ride nice bikes and don't worry about the "bike fund" cash flow.

i don't think any of my bikes/frames/parts were good deals.. i am buying 30 year old stuff that i want to be in pretty good condition.. if i find what i am looking for in good shape and in my size, i buy it.. i like the hunt and the build process.. only my DeRosa was bought as a complete bike with Campy CdA and then i Ergo'd it, but it will go back to it's original build next month.. as for deals, well i don't think it matters what you pay as long as you are happy.. some people think i am nuts spending what i do on bikes, but they have much nicer shoes than me..
