Nice Raleigh. I'd give you your $100 back, right now. What seat is that? I'm looking for a replacement for my '85 Raleigh Capri.

Both of these are outstanding deals.

Occasionally it does pay off to watch CL like a hawk.

$125 for my '75 PX-50. He wanted $150 to start, I offered $125 and got it. I've put countless hours into it so far, and I'm keeping this one. Needs a more period correct seat, but $800 for an Ideale? Nah.

1974 Colnago Mexico

I dropped $1000 for this frame, panto cranks, brake levers, seatpost, and stem.

I polished the parts and completed the build and moved it for $2600.

$ 450 for a Schwinn Paramount with Campy stuff. I wish I still had the campy stuff.

Good points you made, especially on perspective of thrift and value.

Knowing I have more in lto a bike(s) than I could get out of it is partly why I fix up and sell other bikes- so I can help offset and fund the family(mostly mine) keeper bikes.
The other reason is because I love knowing there are good solid options available for people to ride who aren't looking to go pro and spend high hundreds/thousands just to ride with family or on trails.

$2000 on eFray:
I kept the KCNC Ti cassette, Ti chain, and HS spacers.
I kept the Stronglight Pulsion crankset and FSA Platinum BB
I kept the Campy Record Carbon 10sp Ergos/FD/RD
I kept the KCNC CB-1 calipers

The rest, I parted out for about $1300. Probably broke even on bike/parts and lost on shipping.

$1000 on CL:
1987 Paramount just back from Waterford frame restoration.
Columbus SLX, with NOS 9-sp DA group, including WH-7700 wheelset.
Nicely set up, and a gorgeous bike. 54.5cm and too small for me.
I think I broke even on the part-out, but I know the folks were happy with their parts.

$100 for a '98 Specialized FSR project. Poor guy was in over his head. Put on the wheelset from my daily rider, installed a new crankset, front derailleur, chain & cable set. Rode it around a few months, then sold it for $400. A good bike, but sucky to ride around town.

While I've paid what I'd consider full market price for many frames, the most I've ever spent through CL for a bike, frame, etc was $300.

There were two purchased at this price (each $300) First was a like new Fuji touring series 4 (sold to my brother in law that has cross US touring cred, so felt good about passing such a clean bike along to him). Second was a really nice 1983 Miyata 1000 (complete with original bill of sale), still have that one waiting for me to retire and tour all over on it.

$700 for a very nice Specialized Expedition from a Forum member. Lovely bike, and a great, comfortable all-rounder.

I spent $400 for my '94 Cannondale R600. It was my first CL C&V buy and I still love it.

I paid $315 for this Bianchi Eros. I really wanted it to fit, but it was just too small. Sold it for $400 after cleaning it up, putting some different tires, and a saddle that I couldn't stand on it.

We're not counting eBay, then?

In that case, tied for tops is the '73 Raleigh Gran Sport I bought about a month ago on CL, and the Colian frameset I bought here. Both were $200. I still have the Colian and haven't even finished setting the Gran Sport up yet.

$550 on CL for a 2010 Soma Rush with high zoot parts. Phil hubs, Sugino 75 crank, Thomson, Chris King, etc. Sold all the parts and had a free frame. Put cheap parts on it and rode for 2 years.

Tange Prestige is good stuff. Should have kept it but now I have a Jamis Sputnik fixed with Reynolds 631 tubes.

Ooop's, Yes, by all means lets include Ebay, too! It is educational for BF members contemplating on Ebay as a vehicle to sell their stuff, or Alibaba, for that mater.

Well, then, I think I paid just shy of $300 for my '64 JRJ frameset with the Record headset. I don't want to add up what I spent building it.

$340.00 for a complete '78 Colnago Super and $200.00 for a complete '85 Trek 620. Many buys in the $75-$125 range. Probably the best of which is an '87 Trek 760 for $120.00

What is this sell you speak of?
