Wishing you all a great ride! I hope the weather is tolerable and even pleasant. I'll pray for no flats (in tubulars or in clinchers) and no mechanical issues that can't be fixed by a quick adjustment of a nut, bolt or screw.

I've been in the pan handle of northwest Florida for 9 days now and have ridden the Dahon folder almost every day (Mrs. PB wouldn't let me take it out in a deluge while it thundering and lightening). I was thinking @Ed. maybe can write a ballad about my Dahon and a 'gator.

Can I give a brief report on my C&V activities here in FL (guess you can't stop me)?

I've suffered from N+1 while here and picked up a '92 Miyata Valley Runner MTB. Apparently it is rather rare in that it has CF main tubes bonded to aluminum lugs. In another thread we can't seem to locate it in any of the Miyata or Miyata-Koga catalogs. I was thinking about flipping it while I'm here, but yesterday thought it might make the perfect basis for a lightweight drop-bar MTB. So I might ship it or at least the frameset back to NH.

The other C&V activity I've been engaged in is tubular tire repair. I'm all set to run tubular wheels and tires on my '83 Paramount as soon as I return. In picking up the wheels over the winter I also received at no cost several flat tubular tires. As it turned out one had a loose valve core. The other two needed the strip peeled back, the stitching cut, and the tube patched. Just finished sewing up the tires and re-gluing the tape last night, and they do seem good to go!

Right now I am putting it at 20% chance I will make it tomorrow. I am also thinking riding the Boston Marathon route out and back if I can find someone to do the slow ride out. Got to get all my lights working.

I'm afraid I won't be at tomorrow's ride given the combo of my daughter's crew regetta in Worcester and that I've been away at least once a week for the last five weeks. I might ride out to Worcester, however, and catch a car ride home.

Dave, I've done the Marathon route out and back on bike. Once was enough. It definitely was not the route I'd take if I wanted bike-friendly roads from Boston to Hopkinton.

Thanks for the reminder Neal. I have done the route a number of times (although I've always managed to get a ride to the start) and I just thought it would be fun to do with several hundred people. I guess I should do a better mapping of the path out. I am riding slow this year in that I've done nothing but shovel snow the past few months.

OK, so it's Saturday. I'm nearing the end of a now 4-week run of a bronchial infection, but I think I'm OK. I was hoping to bring Sophia, but her new slippers haven't come in, and she refuses to be seen in public with inappropriate footwear. Geraldine, however, hussy that she is, is red hot, no matter what she's wearing, so I expect we'll make it. As to whether I can keep up with her, well that remains to be seen.

I'll bring my AAA card in case I break down; they say they're good for two broken bike calls - I figure whoever shows up ain't likely to know the difference between a broken me and a broken bike.

10 AM, now I just need to hope my car is out of the shop this afternoon... that's the remaining fly in the ointment.

Not a pleasant ride at all (speaking from experience). If, on the other hand, you really do plan to ride out this way, another threeish miles past the start line will get you to Woodville, the Capital of Hopkinton, the Center of the Universe, and a cold beer if you want one!

Yes, it happened.
Temps in the low 60s, clear blue sky, no wind. You all really should have been there.......
since scottryder wasn't, no tubulars were punctured.
Neither of the usual photographers could make it, so we're short on pictures.
But here's a finish line shot:

And without Jim and Sharon there to provide adult supervision unwise lunch choices were made:

I'm sure that some of the other folks will add a few.

It was lovely, idyllic even. Could not have been better, especially being the recipient of such a compliment from that group of lovely young women !

Yeah, I think she was trying to hit on you! The ride was great, not a lot of wind and perfect temps. The company was equally great, really enjoyed myself. When I was leaving the house this morning, I looked at my camera and decided there would be plenty of cameras there. Evidently everyone else thought the same thing, just a couple of cell phone pictures got taken.

Sorry I missed the ride, looks like the weather was one of the better spring rides you've had. Did you do the full trail and back?

Tell ya, between the company and the weather this ride didn't just put the winter in the rear view mirror, it put it clear out of sight. My thanks to whomever first thought of coming down here to do this ride.

The frosting on my gravy was how quickly any thoughts of work were vanquished.

Great ride, folks! (Dang, that lunch looks good! Don't tell Sharon I said that.) We really wish we could have been there.

Top, is that your daughter? You're the one holding the phone.

Since we could not make it yesterday we will be doing a 2nd Season Opener CCRT Ride next Saturday. BF member and MetroBoston contributor sherbornpeddler has promised to be there. Don't know who else yet. Sharon promises to bring healthier food.

Indeed it was his daughter correcting his anti-social behavior. She also lead the herd of wheel suckers most of the way, out and back. What a lazy crew of old men.

I don't know where we ate, but I'm glad I forgot my snack - I had an eggplant Parmigiana sub, and it was delish! It was a 'special' so I what the odds are of it being on the menu I don't know.

Speaking of Sharon - I'm still waiting for the wopeople of the Forum to chime in and render an opinion as to whether this (these) wopeople (AKA women) were hitting on me. It's been a long time so I kinda forget.

That is indeed my darlin' Siobhan. She's not an enthusiastic cyclist, and focuses her rage into her legs. Makes her a pretty strong rider.....

Lunch was at Bob's, a clam shack drive-in in South Wellfleet about a mile from the end of the trail. Great sandwiches, and the eggplant is usually on the menu. We went with meatball. They also do a good southeastern MA style pizza.

This thread has drifted down to the third 'page', and still no answer to this near existential question...

@Ed. since I'm not a "woperson" I can't give a definite comment, but Mrs. PB would probably say "yes." And then she'd add, "why can't you grow your hair like Ed's?"

@top506, great to see that your daughter came along. At least she kept the "menpeople" from becoming crass! She needs to mature a bit before she can assume the role of (@jimmuller) Sharon's health monitor for "bad for us" food.

@spiker so glad to hear how the ride was good for your mental health! That's why I ride! To chase winter away and to at least put work on the back burner for a day or two--- those are good things!

@otg funny you mention hair! I'm riding in the land of billboards (almost extinct in NH) and there are at least a dozen that I pass regularly mentioning the latest, most effective, least painful, hair replacement therapies available. Makes me wonder if Ed could become a hair follicle donner?

Ed., I'd think that since you didn't pick up on it right away the moment has passed. So it's a moot point. You have to act on these things or they don't count for much!
