New ('94) Pre-Trek Lemond. Hopefully last bike I ever buy.
This darned Lemond has been hanging up in Marcel's shop (Bicisport in Laguna Niguel) for decades. I saw it about 7 years ago, and tried to forget about it. Instead I bought a Look-Equippe Hinault from a gentleman-scholar herein, and tried to quit obsessing about that Lemond.
Then I got a day off from rain, family stuff, work, and honey-do's and made a deal with myself: I'll ride the 41miles (according to Gmaps) up to Marcel's, and if it's not there, I can quit obsessing. But if it is still there, I have to buy it and also quit obsessing.
Gmaps was way off--it was a 51-mile ride, not 44, which made for a lonnng ride back home. Paid way too much for it and it has a Colnago fork, (the OEM fork made the bike handle poorly, according to Marcel). It was built in Italy in '94.
But I'm looking forward to building her up.
I've got a bunch of NIB Ultegra 6400 Tricolor in boxes waiting for it, but Marcel recommended Dura Ace 7800 (which is my favorite group of all time, so...)
Will post photos of finished build.
Anyone know anything about this frame?

Thanks. Paid way too much, enough to feel profoundly ashamed. Marcel remembered me from 7 years ago and he knew he had me. 
No more obsessing, no more shame; just going to move forward and build it up & ride it with a smile.
It's got a VERY laidback seat tube. Not sure if that's an Italian thing or a Lemond thing. Any idears?

I've owned 3 of them and they all seemd OK with the original fork. Snag it if Marcel still has it. Lemond TSX frames (Columbus TSX tubing pre-Trek) tend to hold value and are somewhat desirable.
Does yours have Columbus or Campagnolo drop outs? '94 would be the last year for 'Greg LeMond' bicycles. In '95 he sold rights to Trek at which point they were simply called 'LeMond'.

It's a Lemond thing. Greg believes in geometry that sits the rider back behind the BB a tick...supposedly this helps climbing.

Alas, Marcel no longer has it, because it's in my bedroom right now.
The wheelbase is also nearly an inch longer than my other frames.
Will report on the dropouts when I get home. (Believe they were Campy...?)

It is indeed a TSX frame. If you look on the bottom of the bracket, there will be a TX and a 56 or 58 on it (depending on the size).
Unfortunately for me, the guy I bought it from misrepresented the ailment in the frame. He called a slight bend in the down tube a small "dent." When you put a straight edge against the downtube, there is about a 1/8" differential in about a six inch length if that makes sense. Wasn't too happy because I was very excited to get a white pre-Trek Lemond frame. As we all know, you win some and you lose some.
And then the next chapter emerges...I received in the mail yesterday, another RED TSK pre-Trek Lemond frame (90, 91ish) in great condition. Very excited to build it up.
Anyhow, if you're interested, I'd be willing to maybe trade you the original fork for something. It's not in tip top shape like the rest of your bike but ya never know. The fork has Lemond stickers on it.
I'm very happy that you got such a gem. Super cool bike. I'll keep you and everyone else updated on the RED Lemond build.

Very nice bike. The mostly white color of this bike is so much easier on the eyes than the usual yellow and black paint jobs and graphics most LeMond bikes had. JMO.

Thats a really great looking frame. My father in law has one just like the red one posted except its a 53cm I think. He was telling me about the paint job...maybe someone can speak to this. He was saying these frames were painted with some "high-tech" paint that has been discontinued or outlawed due to safety or environmental concerns. But its suppose to be quite durable and its really striking in person.
Anyway, nice score. Keep us posted as you build it up.

Cannondale used Imron on some of their bikes in the mid 80's. Very nice looking paint, It had that nice wet paint look, but it was actually very prone to chipping. At least that was the case with my brother's early Black Lightning.......

While I didnt spend too much cash I did just pick up a frame I'd been looking at for a few years. Found one a size smaller but went ahead with making it fit just to get it out of my system.
