My Two Merckx Bikes

I finally finished up my Merckx build and teardown. In late November I picked up these 'his and hers' Merckx bikes as a packaged deal. They hadn't been ridden for about 10 years so I broke them completely down and rebuilt the one that is my size. The big one is a '92 MX Leader and the small one is a TSX/Century. Both have the Motorola Team paint scheme. The MX Leader frame was built for Michel Zanoli for the '92 race season but never got used because he got kicked off the team after an altercation with Davis Phinney during a race. I am keeping the MX Leader because it is just my size and am going to sell the TSX/Century frame since it is too small for anyone in the family. They are both in very nice condition. In a couple months, when the snow is gone, I will be able to take the MX Leader for a spin.

Yes, I know. It is an 'American Classic' seatpost. It is the only component that isn't Dura Ace except the stem and bars (Cinelli).

Grady, they pale in comparison to some of your bikes.

Beauty! And an awesome story behind her too. I remember seeing Zanoli either in footage or mentioned in Winning Magazine. Good for him, altercating with that whiner Phinney.

Heh--NYT Story: "He's an extremely aggressive rider," said Greg LeMond, a former teammate. "I like Mike, but he does have a little temper."

And here's the Youtube blurb of when he socked Phinney.

Very nice, also jealous. I would love to have a Merckx in team colors. Hopefully one day a 7-eleven.

I really like the 7-eleven colors. I tried to buy a Corsa Extra in that paint scheme not too long ago on eBay but missed out. Shortly after that I found the MX Leader and Century in the Motorola Team colors so I grabbed them.

Too bad you don't have a 'tweener' - one in a size in-between those two.... Might have a LOT of takers!!!

As a Motorola employee, I am partial to this paint job. I'd love to find one in my size.
You got a great score with the pair.
